Position description

Join DCAF as Project Officer, a new role within our Partnerships and Development team. Reporting directly to the Head of Brussels Office, you will play a crucial part in expanding DCAF’s global impact by proactively supporting our activities in Brussels.

The position offers an exciting opportunity for an early-career professional interested in European affairs, advocacy, fundraising, and international cooperation within a leading organisation working on security sector governance.

Based in Brussels, the Project Officer will support the visibility and positioning of DCAF towards EU institutions, NATO, donors and partners. The role combines coordination, communication, research, and administrative support functions, contributing to the smooth functioning of the Brussels office and its engagement with key stakeholders.

More specifically, the role will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:

  • Support the implementation of DCAF’s advocacy and outreach activities towards EU institutions, NATO and Brussels-based stakeholders;
  • Support research projects through desk research, background analysis, coordination tasks, and logistical arrangements for field missions, workshops, and consultations;
  • Assist in preparing briefing notes, presentations, talking points, and background materials for meetings, internal and external engagements;
  • Support the organisation of high-level visits, meetings, and events involving colleagues from Geneva and country offices;
  • Contribute to the preparation and coordination of communication and visibility materials for the Brussels office;
  • Assist in maintaining stakeholder mappings and contact databases;
  • Monitor relevant EU policy, funding, and political developments related to security, governance, peacebuilding, and more generally international cooperation;
  • Support the development of fundraising opportunities, including donor mapping and intelligence gathering on upcoming EU funding opportunities;
  • Contribute to the preparation of EU proposals, including administrative compilation, formatting and drafting support;
  • Liaise with internal teams across DCAF offices to facilitate information sharing and coordination;
  • Provide general administrative and logistical support to the Brussels office as required.

Your experience

  • MA/MSc in International relations, security studies, political sciences, conflict studies, development or related field;
  • 3 to 5 years professional experience in fundraising and/or management of EU funded projects in the field of governance, peace and security or human rights;
  • Previous experience of working for, or engaging with, the EU or NATO on issues of governance, peace and security or human rights;
  • Previous experience in working in an international environment with international/multilateral organisations;
  • Good knowledge of the Brussels ecosystem;
  • A valid work permit for Belgium (or EU/EEA/Swiss citizenship) at the time of Application is a pre-requisite.
  • Strong organisational skills, including ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail;
  • Good analytical skills and the ability to research and write briefing reports accurately;
  • Ability to work on own initiative and in a small team, and to be managed remotely;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and French. Fluency in another European language would be an advantage.
