Indo-Pacific trade routes are an important source of raw materials for the EU and a way for South Korea to import energy. The expansion of China’s influence in the region creates challenges for countries such as South Korea, but it also creates opportunities to work with European partners. South Korea and the EU can advance their Indo-Pacific strategies together to address China’s assertion in the region and prevent the jeopardy of trade routes.

Revised version of a paper presented at the conference on “New Convergences in EU-ROK Economic Security Relations”, organised in Rome on 30 January 2024 by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI).
