European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity

European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity

Position description

About ENTSO-E

ENTSO-E is the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. We coordinate the cross-border system operations, system development and electricity market activities of the 40 electricity transmission system operators (TSOs) which cover 36 countries. The ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels provides support on technical, market and policy developments for all European TSOs in their cooperation with each other, in their joint fulfilment of their legal mandates, and in the intensive interactions with EU decision-makers, regulatory agencies, associations representing network users and other stakeholders.

If you are interested in having an active role in the energy transition, you should consider joining ENTSO-E. We are a dynamic European association working on important and exciting projects of the electricity sector with the commitment to support the efforts towards a carbon-neutral power system. At ENTSO-E, you will contribute to building the world’s largest integrated electricity market – impacting not only those in the energy sector but also Europe’s overall economy, today and in the future!

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated System Operations Manager to join our Market and Operations section. Do you have strong leadership capabilities, technical expertise in operation of the pan-European power system, and the ability to build consensus in complex stakeholder environments? Are you passionate about shaping the future of energy in Europe, but as well supporting the robustness of the current operational processes followed by the TSOs?

If so, this role at ENTSO-E could be the perfect opportunity for you.

Based in the ENTSO-E Secretariat in Brussels, you will report to the Head of Markets & Operations. You will manage a team of 6 specialists, providing leadership, direction, and development support to deliver on high-priority regulatory and operational projects. You will work collaboratively across all sections of the Secretariat to ensure strategic alignment and effective reporting to our governance bodies.

This role requires regular engagement with key European stakeholders such as the European Commission, ACER, and the EU DSO Entity. It allows for hybrid working setup with partial remote flexibility and requires occasional travel (around 5 times per year).

Your Responsibilities

You will contribute to the Association’s work in areas including system resilience, operational readiness and synchronous system operation. Key responsibilities include:

      • Lead and manage a team of 6 specialists: set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, conduct performance reviews. Support individual development and contribute to HR initiatives;
      • Support the drafting and ensure delivery of the work programme of the System Operation Committee and provide strategic and operational support to working groups, convenors, and project managers;
      • Plan, monitor, and report on deliverables for various working groups including the Steering Group Resilient Operation, Regional Group Continental Europe and System Operations Committee;
      • Contribute to the preparation of the Regional Group Continental Europe and System Operations Committee meetings alongside with Secretariat colleagues. Also, strong and active involvement for the preparation of the Board and General Assembly meetings, for the topics relevant in the assigned work area;
      • Support strategic activities within the Association, ensuring decision-making processes are inclusive, efficient, and aligned with ENTSO-E governance;
      • Maintain and strengthen dialogue with ACER, the European Commission, and other European Stakeholders. Build trust and ensure transparency through fora such as the European Stakeholder Committees and the Electricity Coordination Group;
      • Active involvement in the technical analysis of grid incidents based on the rules provided by the Incident Classification Scale methodology.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications and skills:

      • University degree in engineering and/or business administration or a related field;
      • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the electricity or energy sector, ideally with a focus on power system operations;
      • At least 3 years of experience as a team leader or people manager;
      • Deep understanding of European regulation framework on power system operation and electricity market, with experience engaging in European or international governance or stakeholder processes;
      • Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to facilitate consensus and stakeholder alignment;
      • Excellent project management and strategic planning abilities, including experience coordinating working groups and multi-stakeholder initiatives;
      • Sound analytical mindset and technical understanding to support activities such as incident analysis, system operation studies, or technical reporting;
      • Highly collaborative, organised, and proactive mindset, with the ability to work in a multicultural and fast-paced environment;
      • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Our offer

Our people are truly at the heart of our association. You will be part of a multinational and multi-cultural environment, with colleagues from over 30 different nationalities. We believe in a diverse and inclusive workforce which allows us to create an environment where we learn from each other and develop together. We strongly believe in continuous learning and offer a broad range of training and development opportunities to our employees. We are a hybrid workplace and offer a maximum of flexibility enabling to have a good balance between remote working and engaging physically with colleagues.

We offer market competitive compensation and an extensive benefit package, with excellent insurance coverage for you and direct family members (such as hospitalization, supplemental medical plan). You will benefit from group insurance and travel insurance. You will have the opportunity to participate in a Flexible Benefits Plan to choose for those benefits that create the best value for you.
