Job Title Assistant Vice President for University Outreach and Professional and Continuing Education Posting Number P2240F Job Description Summary

The Office of the Vice President for University Outreach at Auburn University is seeking a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Assistant Vice President for University Outreach and Professional and Continuing Education. This position reports to the Vice President for University Outreach and Associate Provost. The position reflects a strategic expansion in organizational scope and leadership responsibilities, including implementation of university-wide initiatives and oversight of a wide-range of high quality, interactive, non-credit professional and continuing education programs.

  • Lead the Office of Professional and Continuing Education (OPCE), providing executive oversight of all administrative, financial, and academic operations.
  • Promote and enhance professional and continuing education programs across Auburn University, statewide, nationally and internationally.
  • Provide strategic planning and management of online certificate programs, professional training, conferencing and events, global leadership initiatives and youth programs.
  • Develop and expand non-credit learning credentials to support workforce advancement, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning.
  • Expand professional micro-credentialing and high quality non-credit corporate training and executive certificate programs by establishing new markets and targeting key businesses and corporate clients in high demand, career fields.
  • Offer and deliver dynamic and accessible programs through digital, hybrid, and microcredential formats.
  • Serve as a resource for Auburn University schools, colleges, departments and external partners, offering leadership and support in the development and enhancement of outreach programs.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across campus with academic schools, colleges, faculty and Extension System counterparts to increase coordination and collaboration in building comprehensive offerings of non-credit professional and continuing education throughout the disciplines.
  • Convene and provide strategic administration of the Outreach Professional and Continuing Education Council.
  • Identify funding and program opportunities, generate revenue and develop and supervise budgets.
  • Select, hire and supervise staff for the Office of Professional and Continuing Education.
  • Lead and assist OPCE staff and others with program and proposal development.
  • Collect and maintain programmatic data; prepare periodic and annual reports for the Vice President for University Outreach and Associate Provost.

Candidates selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of employment and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (doctorate degree desired) at the time employment begins with 6 years of experience.
  • Record of successful administrative experience and leadership in professional and continuing education programs.
  • Proven skills in planning, administration and development of fee-for-service non-credit programs.
  • Understanding of the outreach and the professional and continuing education functions at a comprehensive land grant university.
  • Experience in budget development, staff supervision, and the ability to analyze critical elements of departmental operations is essential.
  • Ability to identify and secure extramural funding opportunities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and written communication.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a broad population.
  • Involvement in professional associations related to outreach and professional and continuing education.
  • Knowledge of higher education policies and procedures (particularly Carnegie and SACS related guidelines for outreach/engagement), university operations, strategic planning, and program evaluation are also required.
