Position description

The climate needs bright minds. The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) addresses crucial scientific questions in the fields of global change, climate impacts and sustainable development. It is one of the world’s leading research insti-tutions in its field and offers natural and social scientists from around the world an inspiring environment for excellent interdisciplinary research.

In our Evidence for Climate Solutions group within the Climate Economics and Policy research department, PIK, located at EUREF Campus in Berlin-Schöneberg, is offering an exciting opportunity to be part of a Wellcome Trust funded project on Dig-ital Evidence Synthesis Tools for Climate and Health. We are seeking a

Student assistant in research management (m/f/d)
(Position number: 46-2025 SHK Research management)

starting on 01.04.2026.

The position is initially funded for 12 months from the beginning of the contract. The remuneration is determined according to the guidelines of the TdL. The current hourly rate for a student assistant with a Bachelor’s degree is 14,59 € (without a Bachelor’s degree 13,98 €). This is a part-time position with a weekly working time of up to 10 hours per week.

Key responsibilities:

• creating online surveys, analysing survey data and reporting results
• contributing to the management of scientific project data and development of structured knowledge resources
• assisting with the preparation of scientific reports and other project outputs
• collating and synthesising project partner progress reports
• supporting the coordination of meetings and events (online/hybrid/in person)
• enhancing coherent internal and external project communications

You are a Bachelor or Master student, enrolled at a German university, and ide-ally meet the following requirements:

• background in research management, project management, science communnication, environmental science, geography, computer science, social science, political science, international development, ecology, economics or related fields
• general knowledge of research in climate, health and/or evidence synthesis
• training or experience in project management, communications, copy editing, and/or event coordination is an advantage
• Experience working in or with low or middle income (LMICs) countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, is an advantage

We expect:

• strong organizational talent combined with confident time management
• a solution-focused attitude and excellent problem-solving abilities
• a keen interest in research management, project management and/or science communication
• outstanding (C2) written and spoken communication skills in English
• knowledge of German or any of the UN languages is an advantage
• good IT skills and the ability to adapt quickly new digital tools
• independent working style with proactive initiative
• capacity to familiarise yourself quickly with new topics
• creativity and openness to new approaches
• reliability, engagement, and a high level of motivation
• capacity for teamwork
