Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Position description

Carnegie Europe, the European policy research center of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to work in its Brussels office on behalf of the Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics program. This is a two-year position with the possibility of extension depending on need and funding.

The selected candidate is expected to support research on the intersection of Europe’s clean energy strategy and foreign policy. The scope of clean energy research will be broad and include bankable technologies (e.g. wind, solar, batteries, heat pumps), industrial decarbonization (e.g. clean heat, metals, cement, fuels), and next-generation systems (e.g. geothermal, long-duration storage) – knowledge of critical raw materials markets is a plus. The ideal candidate will come prepared with an understanding of either technology and market trends across clean tech sectors, knowledge or experience of the institutional architecture of Brussels and important member states – or ideally a blend of both.

Responsibilities will include writing concisely with acute attention to detail; developing, organizing, and analyzing large datasets in excel; policy analysis; and planning events with high level stakeholders. Candidates should exhibit proficiency in clean tech sectors and supply chains; have an understanding of EU and member state clean energy policy; have experience in data visualization and presenting data clearly; and have an eagerness to learn and open mindedness to problem solving. Proficiency in other software (ArcGIS, Stata) is a bonus.

Candidates will have at least 1-2 years of experience in a relevant role, proven writing and editing skills, the ability to balance multiple deadlines, and work well as part of a team. This position requires a university degree and native or near-native level English. Proficiency in French and/or particularly German is plus. Proven experience in writing, data analysis, and engaging with public and private sectors would be an asset in this role. Candidates must be living in or able to work full-time in Brussels, Belgium, where the position is located. The starting salary for this position is 2,400 EUR per month (gross). This position will start as soon as administratively feasible.

Please apply via the Carnegie Endowment website by providing a copy of your resume/CV and a cover letter that clearly explains why you are interested in working for Carnegie Europe and outlines any relevant professional experience in the field of communications and/or event organization.

Equal employment opportunity.
