Position description

The Senior Religious Freedom Analyst for Strategic Initiatives will provide support services to advance the client’s mission by actively monitoring global developments in religious freedom. This role includes developing strategies, initiatives, and policy responses tailored to assist embassies and other bureaus in effectively addressing these developments. Core responsibilities encompass the review of unclassified and classified information sources, conducting research, drafting documents, managing data entry within appropriate computer systems, facilitating verbal and written communications, and engaging with relevant stakeholders both internal and external.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise the Ambassador at Large, Senior Official and other Office leadership regarding special projects, such as building international networks and strategic public messaging on the mandate and work of the office, including:
  • Guide a team of up to three mid- and entry-level contractors. Establish robust and action-oriented public communication strategies to advance Administration priorities on international religious freedom.
  • Use audience analysis and the breadth of Department public diplomacy tools to propose and design proactive messaging campaigns.
  • Propose strategic media engagements for Department and office principals that advance the office’s objectives.
  • Advise office and bureau leadership on digital messaging initiatives on IRF-related issues.
  • Oversee media monitoring, responses to media inquiries, social media messaging, and production of other communication products.
  • Track initiatives and communications within the Department of State, with interagency partners, and external non-governmental organization (NGO) interlocutors.
  • Manage efforts to build more effective and independent international alliances and networks that promote freedom of religion or belief through coordinated action.
  • Ensuring policymakers have access to information about conditions on the ground, developing trends, and take action to assist members of negatively-affected religious communities in furtherance of U.S. policy priorities toward international religious freedom.

Qualifications

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need:

  • Experience supporting policy development and implementation in Washington or overseas.
  • Proven ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to navigate complex processes and political sensitivities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, as demonstrated through significant Department briefing experience.
  • Ability to balance competing demands, multi-task, and pivot priorities depending on IRF leadership’s needs.
  • Experience in human rights.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the Department’s public engagement strategy and policies, including through previous work with GPA or in a press office. Previous supervisory experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Reports to: Program Manager

Working Conditions

  • Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
  • Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
  • May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
  • May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
  • May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.
