Position description

Razom, which means “together” in Ukrainian, is dedicated to upholding the principles of the Revolution of Dignity (Maidan) and actively contributing to the establishment of a secure, prosperous, and democratic Ukraine. We achieve this by creating, inspiring, and collaborating on initiatives that motivate people to think, partner and do.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The Director of Cultural Programming and Engagement is a strategic leader responsible for shaping and advancing Razom’s cultural and academic programming to amplify Ukraine’s contemporary cultural and historical narrative on an international scale. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in cultural and educational program management, with experience engaging diverse audiences and fostering partnerships across arts, academia, and media.

The Director of Cultural Programming and Engagement leads a dynamic team, setting strategic goals and managing program staff specializing in academia outreach, cinema, literature, performing art and other future initiatives.

Chief Operating Officer, Razom for Ukraine

RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Strategy and Vision
* Lead the team members in developing a clear strategic roadmap and operating plan for cultural programming in alignment with Razom’s organizational goals, with a goal of bringing Ukraine into the global mainstream by growing non-Ukrainian audiences that engage with Ukrainian culture, language, and history.
* Collaborate with team members to design and execute projects and events that expand non-Ukrainian audiences and bring Ukraine into the global mainstream through innovation, culture, language, and history.
* Communicate and collaborate regularly with other Razom program directors to ensure the strategic development and success of cultural programming and to realize opportunities for collaboration with other Razom programs.
* In partnership with the team members, develop and maintain a theory of change for Razom’s cultural programming

Team Leadership and Development
* Manage and mentor team members, empowering them to act as managers within their areas of expertise while aligning their efforts with the broader strategy.
* Lead financial planning and oversight for the team budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively, activities are delivered as planned, and budget changes are managed proactively
* Foster a team culture that promotes collaboration, respect for Ukrainian cultural expertise, and thoughtful storytelling through each project.

Stakeholder and Institutional Engagement
* With the help and input of the team members, build and cultivate partnerships with cultural institutions, universities, media outlets, and advocacy groups to extend the reach of Razom’s cultural and academic programming in the US, and as relevant, the world.
* Serve as a connector and communicator with key cultural and academic stakeholders in the U.S. and Ukraine, securing high value collaboration opportunities.

Media and Communications
* Cultivate relationships with media editors and journalists to ensure Razom’s cultural and academic events receive meaningful press coverage.
* Collaborate with the Advocacy and Advancement teams to align cultural and academic programming and communication with Razom’s advocacy and fundraising objectives.

Leadership at Razom
* Represent Razom’s cultural work in organization-wide strategy development, planning, and budgeting processes.
* Support the development of Razom as the leading Ukraine-focused non-profit in the US with sustainable impact in support of a prosperous and democratic Ukraine.
* Support Razom’s fundraising efforts via public speaking at fundraising events, through donor engagement and relationship building, etc.
* Collaborate with the Advancement Team on fundraising campaigns and development of grant proposals relevant to Razom’s effectiveness.

Qualifications

* Minimum of 7 years in cultural or educational programming, curation, or project management within the arts or academia, with experience in Ukraine, Europe, or the U.S.
* Strong understanding of or curiosity for Ukrainian culture, history, and current events; ability to work collaboratively with artists, academics, and curators based in Ukraine.
* Proven experience building and leading high-performing teams, developing people, and strengthening performance management practices.
* Proven project management skills, with a track record of leading complex cultural or educational projects from concept through completion.
* Skilled at cultivating productive relationships with a diverse range of artists, academics, and collaborators, guiding projects to align with the program’s mission.
* Proficiency in media relations, with a keen understanding of how to communicate cultural and educational narratives to Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian (especially North American) audiences.
* Ability to manage budgets and prioritize resources effectively.
* Proven ability to build collaboration across programs, teams, and functions.
* Proficiency of Ukrainian language/knowledge of Ukrainian audiences is a strong plus.
* Established network of relationships with cultural and educational institutions, media, and organizations aligned with Razom’s mission is a strong plus.
