Position Summary

The Department of Teacher and Special Education at Central Michigan University invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term faculty in the area of Special Education. The primary professional responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education. This includes a 4 course teaching load, fall and spring semesters, in the academic year (4-4). This may include Special Education clinical supervision coursework (some with field-based, up to 60-mile travel radius). This position is effective August 18, 2025. CMU is seeking a candidate who can teach beginning Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 semester, however, preference will be given to those able to start in Fall 2025. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Master degree in Special Education.
  • Three academic years of PK-12 U.S. experience teaching students with disabilities.
  • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the field of Special Education.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree or ABD in Special Education.
  • Evidence of postsecondary teaching effectiveness.
  • Experience with online instruction and other modalities.
  • Expertise in one or more areas: (a) serving PK-12 students with low-incidence disabilities, (b) knowledge of Michigan Department of Education Standards for Educator Preparation in Special Education, and/or © Council for Exceptional Children’s initial preparation standards and high-leverage practices.
