This role will represent the interests of the organisations at EU institutions and platforms, with a special emphasis on tech policy, child protection and child rights.

Key Responsibilities

  • EU Advocacy: Represent the organisation’s interests at EU events, forums, and in meetings with EU institutions, focusing on tech policy and child rights.
  • Child Helpline Data: Work closely with cross-functional teams to build an advocacy framework that leverages data and insights from child helplines across Europe.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with EU and European decision-makers, civil society organizations, and relevant networks to promote and advance children’s protection and digital rights in the EU, with a strong focus on industry and lobbyists.
  • Policy Analysis and Strategy Development: Analyse EU legislation, regulatory frameworks, and policy trends to inform our advocacy strategies. Collaborate with members and partners to develop and implement targeted advocacy campaigns that can appeal to both industry and national level policy and decision makers.
  • Position Papers and Briefings: Draft policy briefs, position papers, and advocacy materials in alignment with our organizational goals on digital rights and mental health for children.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track and report on the impact of EU policies and Child Helpline International’s advocacy efforts. Present findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Campaign Coordination: Collaborate with communication teams to design and launch EU-wide campaigns, leveraging evidence-based data and case studies from child helplines to raise awareness of child rights issues.

Key Qualifications

  • The candidate should have a background in political science or law, with strong experience in EU-level advocacy. A broad network of contacts and a deep understanding of EU institutions and policymaking processes are critical for success in this role.
  • Policy and Advocacy Experience: Proven experience in EU policy advocacy, particularly in child rights and digital rights advocacy. With a broad knowledge of tech industry and Trust and Safety dynamics and related sector developments.
  • Educational Background: A university degree (Master’s degree is preferred) in international relations, EU studies, law, human rights, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in a similar role.
  • Analytical and Communication Skills: Strong analytical abilities to interpret complex policies, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in drafting position papers and advocacy materials.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Demonstrated ability to develop strategic relationships with EU institutions, MEPs, and child rights organizations.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other EU languages, especially French, is an asset.
  • Remote working skills: Ability to work effectively in a remote team, collaborating with supervisors and colleagues based in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Stockholm.
  • Values and Commitment: A strong passion for promoting child rights, ensuring digital safety for children, and fostering mental health support.
  • Location and Work Permit: The ideal candidate should be based in or around Brussels and must have a valid EU work permit. Please note that we are unable to provide sponsorship or relocation packages.

What We Offer

  • A contract for 0.8FTE (32 hours weekly)
  • A gross salary of €4,100 – €5,300 per month for 0.8FTE. The exact salary will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
  • 20 days of paid annual leave and 10 days of paid sick leave per year (based on 0.8 FTE), plus an additional day off to celebrate your birthday.
