Position description

The Bank for International Settlements, BIS, is hiring a Senior Communications Specialist, corporate campaigns within the Communications department.

This role is based in Basel, however, thanks to our status as an international organisation, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

Responsibility in planning and coordinating communication campaigns with both external and internal communication dimensions, collaborating with various business areas and developing strategic plans for communicating organisational priority themes and messages.

Works very closely with Communications leadership, business partners and other stakeholders across functions and hierarchies and contributes proactively to staff engagement by creating powerful internal narratives, messages and two-way interactions through internal channels.

You will also be a Comms adviser for key BIS outreach activities and take ownership of business area campaigns and portfolios and implement BIS media relations strategies, with a view to maximise the presence of the BIS.

By joining the Communications team, you will:

• Coordinate the design, implementation and evaluation of targeted campaigns for the purpose of informing, motivating and inspiring international audiences.
• Contribute to the Bank’s business and people strategy converting internal and external stakeholders’ needs and functional information into impactful narratives.
• Have an opportunity to shape powerful internal stories, messages and two-way interactions in order to generate an overall positive employee experience.

Principal accountabilities:

• Manages multi-stakeholder internal and external communication campaigns from concept to delivery and reviews metrics to measure effectiveness.
• Delivers content and campaigns for internal and external channels (eg social media, website content, intranet, blogs, videos, podcasts, newsletters, email bulletins, chat messaging etc.).
• As part of the Strategic Planning and Engagement team, supports the development of content considering editorial priorities and works with colleagues to support the positioning of the BIS employer brand externally.
• Supports the development of BIS internal channels and makes sound recommendations for their improvement, to ensure up-to-date inclusion of existing and emerging new technologies, visualizations and other relevant tools, platforms and systems.
• Provides strategic advice and expertise when collaborating with other functions to support them in timely functional updates, as well as information – and knowledge-sharing across departments and the whole organisation.
• Keeps staff proactively up-to-date on global activities, projects, programmes and initiatives of the BIS and its regional offices.
• As part of a team of Comms advisers takes on business portfolios and topics as required.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

• BA degree (or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing or similar. Relevant post-degree trainings desirable.
• At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in advising clients on all levels on external and internal communication matters and driving internal comms strategies in a multi-channel environment.
• Leading internal communication campaigns in a corporate communications function of a sizeable organisation across a variety of internal communication channels.
• Strong experience in writing and editing texts (and other campaign materials), and in using different channels and tools to achieve staff commitment and engagement.
• In-depth experience and creativity demonstrated in broadening the communication spectrum for employee engagement.
• Organised and driven professional with strong communication skills, including superior speaking, writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to present convincingly in person in English. Multilingual skills are desired.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, incl. active and empathic listening; able to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent planning, (self-)organisation, implementation and time management skills.
• Ability to multi-task and effectively manage various campaigns and initiatives at the same time, without losing sight of relevant detail.
• Good understanding of systems that support the delivery and tracking of effective internal messaging desirable.
• Positive and pro-active with minimal supervision.
• Good business acumen and/or in-depth understanding of central bank issues; ability to think holistically.
