Doctors of the World

Doctors of the World

<div class="prose-job-description“>

Position description

Do you want to join an activist association and take concrete action for greater social justice?

Doctors of the World has been working for over 40 years to treat the most vulnerable populations, denounce obstacles to access to care and bring about lasting changes in health policies.

In France and in nearly 30 other countries, our actions are structured around six political battles:

* sexual and reproductive health and rights (including the right to abortion)
* migration, exile, rights and health
* risk reduction
* health and environment
* rights and the health system
* humanitarian spaces
For more than twenty years, Médecins du Monde’s program on the Hauts-de-France coast has been helping exiled people stuck at the Franco-British border, from Calais to Dunkirk, while they wait to try to reach the United Kingdom.

In 2015 and 2016, this program developed a very high operational volume in an emergency. After the evacuation of the “Calais jungle” in the fall of 2016, then the destruction of the “Grande-Synthe camp” in March 2017, activity went into a period of standstill before resuming, during 2017, an operational volume that mobilizes a large team in a complex political context and a potentially deteriorating security environment.

Operational activities are organized as follows:

* Two “mobile clinic” sessions per week: primary healthcare consultations, mediation, support in accessing mainstream healthcare services, and mental health activities.
* Two weekly outreach sessions and support sessions to mainstream healthcare facilities
* Médecins du Monde is today a leading health actor across the entire coastline, with a strong presence in inter-association and advocacy dynamics.

The position is part of a changing security context which may be degraded with a dedicated security protocol.

Why we need you

Your mission is to implement the health promotion activities of the program and to ensure the quality of activities, practices and medical data.

Your tasks

1- Field visits, training and capacity building

* Participate in mobile clinic outings
* Conduct briefings and debriefings for outreach patrols and PASS support sessions.
* Participate in the onboarding process for volunteer candidates and in scheduling management.
* To provide ongoing support and training to volunteer healthcare teams (on the context, appropriate behaviors, healthcare activities, use of tools, and intercultural awareness) and to participate in identifying training needs
* Organize and lead thematic working groups (mediation, mental health) with the volunteer team and external stakeholders.
2- Monitoring the implementation of activities

* Ensuring the quality of activities (implementation of medical protocols, pharmacy management)
* To frame the operational activities of primary healthcare by including the mental health and psycho-social support dimension
* Create data collection and support tools for carrying out activities, adapt them according to evolving needs, and train teams in their use.
* Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the program, propose adaptations or redirections of activities, while ensuring continuous evaluation and analysis of the context
* Compile the received data regularly and ensure the quality of data collection.
* Process orders and monitor pharmacy management
* To be responsible for health monitoring and to alert if necessary
* To ensure compliance with the strategic and political guidelines of Doctors of the World
3- Representation and relations with local health partners

* Identify healthcare partners to work with to ensure holistic and high-quality care
* Strengthen collaboration with public institutions and health authorities
* Participate in local meetings with the authorities
* Organize and participate in inter-association health meetings
4- Reporting and advocacy

* Analyze the statistical and qualitative data collected by the field teams
* To be responsible for collecting testimonies in order to identify potential problems and inform the program’s advocacy strategies
* Prepare monthly activity reports for the medical/health department.
* Participate in the drafting of advocacy reports
* Participate in the drafting of annual activity reports
Your colleagues

You will work under the supervision of the program coordinator and have a functional link with the health liaison officer in the French operations department. You will also work closely with the volunteer mission manager. The team consists of a medical supervisor, two interpreters (in Kurdish, Arabic, and Afghan), a logistics officer, a project manager specializing in sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, and approximately forty volunteer caregivers and non-caregivers.

You are the right person if you…

* Have a medical or paramedical background – additional training in mental health and psychosocial support, mediation, or the social and/or humanitarian sector would be a real advantage
* Do you have experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly migrants?
* Do you have experience in leading volunteer teams?
* Master computer tools (Office suite) and collaborative tools
* You speak fluent French (written and spoken) and have a good level of English.
* Do you hold a driving licence (B)
This position is not for you if…

* You fear that you do not identify with the values and activist stance of Doctors of the World
* You don’t have good stress resistance
