International Crisis Group

International Crisis Group

Position description

Crisis Group is offering a great learning opportunity to develop concise writing skills, and seeing first-hand how a policy organisation develops and maintains its media relations and promotes its work through its podcasts. In this volunteer internship you will also be observing, contributing and providing feedback to our processes as a member of the communications team. This is a full time internship position for 3-6 months, starting as soon as possible.

We offer you learning on the job through:

      • Suggesting, reaching out to and preparing candidate podcast guests, supporting podcast hosts with the recording process;
      • Preparing background research and runs-of-show for hosts of upcoming podcast episodes;
      • Writing summaries of episodes to accompany publication;
      • Assisting the Online team in drafting content for all our active social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram).
      • Monitoring the impact of podcasts and providing feedback to hosts;
      • Assisting with uploading Crisis Group’s written publications.
      • Drafting mass mailing campaigns for publications and global media releases as well as Crisis Group’s weekly newsletter;
      • Contribute to expanding and maintaining Crisis Group’s main media contact list database;
      • Monitor developments in online media and media coverage of Crisis Group and its staff and assist in the production of impact metrics.

This internship position will suit anyone interested in acquiring a practical overview of a wide range of countries in conflict, developing concise writing skills, and learning how a policy organisation develops its communications strategies. Candidates will need very good English, good writing skills and to enjoy working in a fast-paced, diverse, multinational team. The ideal intern will have prior communications experience and will already be familiar with the production of podcasts in a professional setting.

Our Communications team is based in Brussels, Belgium. We encourage applications from students based in Belgium who are undertaking the internship as part of an academic or sponsored program (e.g. those integrating the internship into their academic curriculum for credit, or supported by external funding such as a grant or scholarship). While priority is given to such candidates, those not pursuing the internship for academic credit may still be considered on a case-by-case basis, with the possibility of remote work.
