Position description
Under the guidance of the Chief of Human Resources, the HR Associate is accountable for service provision, transactions and advice to internal clients on the full HR life cycle administration for UNU Personnel, applying policies and procedures and ensuring compliance with Staff Rules and Regulations, in close collaboration with UNU’s HR Focal Points and UNDP/GSSU. Responsibilities include leading and coordinating HR administrative services for various contract types (FTA, PSA, CTC, interns) with a focus on the America and Africa regions while supporting Europe; advising on recruitment and selection; preparing FTA hiring and promotion submissions for the Central Review Board; liaising with GSSU on hiring, contracts and payroll; administering compensation and benefits including leave, medical insurance, pension and education grants; conducting workforce planning and analytics and preparing HR reports; advising supervisors and staff on Performance Appraisal Reports and Performance Improvement Plans; serving as first contact for workplace harassment and conflict resolution; supporting HR technology systems and digital workflows; leading insurance administration including ASHI and travel insurance; and coordinating with Finance, Procurement and Travel.
Requires completion of Secondary Education (6 years relevant HR experience) or a Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business or Public Administration, Social Sciences or related field (4 years relevant experience); familiarity with ERP systems (Oracle Cloud, SAP, PeopleSoft) is an advantage; knowledge of UN HR policies and recruitment principles is desirable; strong analytical and organizational skills; fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia required, another UN language an asset. This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment for one year with possibility of renewal, expected start date 1 January 2027.
