Position description

Work Location

        • In-Person

Expected Duration

        • 4–6 months

Duties and Responsibilities

Several internship positions are open in the Civil Society Unit (CSU), Office of the Director (OD), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), UNODC, Vienna, Austria. Internships are UNPAID and full-time, with interns working five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member.

Interns will:

      • Contribute to the implementation of Programme GLOU68, “Engagement with Non-Governmental Stakeholders on Anti-Corruption, Drugs and Crime Prevention,” including participation in project cycles, drafting concept notes, supporting implementation, and preparing reports.
      • Support the development of communication materials such as flyers, web stories, and other visibility products to highlight CSU activities and impact.
      • Attend events, meetings, and conferences, and take notes.
      • Assist in the preparation of CSU activities and events.
      • Conduct research on assigned topics.
      • Perform other tasks as needed to support CSU operations.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:

      • Be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate programme (Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent).
      • Be enrolled in or have recently completed the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).

Additional requirements:

      • Computer literate in standard software applications.
      • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
      • Ability to successfully interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, demonstrating tolerance and openness to differing opinions.
      • Field of study should be closely related to the type of internship applied for. Applicants should explain how their studies relate to the internship with examples.
      • Creative skills in developing visibility materials (flyers, roll-ups, web stories, social media content) are highly appreciated. Experience with communication tools is a plus.

Languages

      • Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
      • Knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desirable.
      • UN working languages include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

Additional Information

      • Interns are not financially remunerated.
      • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or sponsoring institution.
      • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country of the internship may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
      • Successful candidates should clarify visa requirements before accepting the internship.
