Position description
The European Olympic Committees (EOC) is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director to lead its EU Office in Brussels. In close collaboration with a skilled and motivated team, the Director will be responsible for the overall management, advocacy, and strategic development of the Office, ensuring its operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and enhanced visibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the organisation’s strategic objectives, as defined by the EOC EU Office Executive Board and the EOC Strategy, including by driving policy influencing and advocacy at EU level through: strategic monitoring and influencing of key policy areas and European funding; targeted stakeholder engagement and building alliances across MEPs and EU institutions; positioning of sports and the Olympic Movement’s role in society;
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office, including its financial and administrative functions, applying the highest standards of good governance;
- Ensure the efficient planning and timely execution of meetings (including with the EOC EU Office Executive Board, the IOC, partners, and other stakeholders);
- Ensure proactive information-sharing with partners and regular consultations to align positioning and project implementation;
- Represent the organisation and partners (upon request) in high-level bilateral meetings with EU institutions, partner organisations, and key stakeholders;
- Coordinate partnership engagement and further expand the Office’s strategic network and influence on EU actors;
- Foster a positive and supportive working environment that promotes the professional growth and development of staff.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- A well-established network with representatives of the EU institutions in Brussels;
- A strong understanding of the functioning of European institutions and the EU legal framework;
- A sound understanding of the organisation of sport in Europe, particularly within the Olympic Sport Movement;
- Solid knowledge of the key EU policy areas relevant to sport (education, health, equality, inclusion, sustainability, competition, intellectual property, etc.);
- Proven experience with EU funding mechanisms, including Application, grant negotiation, implementation, and reporting;
- Strong experience in diplomacy and negotiations in technical and high-level settings;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English (written and spoken); additional European languages are an asset;
- Ability to adapt and lead in multicultural and international contexts, to represent the organisation at public events, conferences, and media engagements;
- Proven experience in leading a team and/or managing project consortia;
- Proven commitment to efficiency and organisational excellence, grounded in principles of good governance;
- Willingness to travel to events on weekends;
- Completion of a university degree (Master’s level or equivalent), preferably in one of the following fields: political science, law, sport management.
