Position description
About Us
We are a new media organization focusing on current politics, policy, and conflict. We are positioned within a collective of established independent media organizations centered in multiple locations across the globe.
Our mission is to spearhead the rise of new independent media and accelerate the ultimate displacement of the legacy media industry. Our constituting bedrock belief is that the new generation of new media workforce has the ability to deliver a by far higher-quality service to world audiences than outdated mainstream media and language.
What We Do
Coverage, analysis, commentary, and critique of major global political events (Iran war/Op. Epic Fury/Project Freedom, US-S. Korea alliance, China’s neighborhood, USMCA negotiations, Cuba, etc.). Public previews of our ongoing work are available on Instagram @avantgarde.th.
What We Want to Do
Our new channel is about to be launched and will run in parallel to @avantgarde.th. The new channel will cater to our US audiences and take a more standardized format with a specialistic focus: current politics (ahead of mid-term elections and beyond), policy, legislation, impact and shortcomings of politics, and global power competition. We want to avoid bipartisan politics to focus on the reality of policy.
As our content editing infrastructure is now complete, you will help us gather the raw material for our content by conducting field research, proprietary interviews, strategic engagement, and relationship management to timely get firsthand information and firsthand knowledge of the facts and realities we cover.
As our established audience is predominantly US-based and our content generates the highest engagement on US policy, we are strategically expanding our US-based personnel.
Qualifications
The professional profiles we’re seeking to complete our global team are:
- US-Based Field Reporter
- Source Networker / Field Producer (Responsible for outreach, cultivating relationships, and securing high-level interviews to be conducted by or handed over to our reporters)
What You Will Do
- Conduct direct, on-the-ground field research and proprietary interviews across major policy theaters and legislative hubs.
- Reach out to key sources, establish access, and arrange firsthand interviews to feed directly into our global content pipeline.
- Execute strategic relationship management to secure raw facts and firsthand knowledge of the realities we cover.
- Operate flexibly within a 24/7 global collective, coordinating asynchronously across multiple time zones.
Requirements
- Located in the US.
- Experience in or explicit eagerness to practice true access journalism.
- Ability to navigate political sensitivities and polarized environments without falling into bipartisan commentary.
- Absolute adherence to physical, on-the-ground facts. Open-source aggregation, internet rehashes, and AI tools are strictly non-applicable to this role. Keep in mind these two bottomlines:
- Bottomline 1: Adherence and dedication to on-the-ground facts
- Bottomline 2: Publicly available information, knowledge, and open-source research will be considered invalid, as our team dedicated to this task is now full and optimally running. Exclusively focus on what you can access on the ground. This also ensures AI use is not applicable to your role.
- Ethnographic aptitude—ability to blend seamlessly into diverse social, political, or institutional groups—is a strong plus.
- Direct Primary Source Option: If you have direct, firsthand access to on-the-ground policy execution or critical information, but lack source-management or reporting capabilities, you may apply directly to report as a primary source. Our central editorial desk will process your account directly while ensuring total confidentiality.
Operational Protection & Terms
We protect our network. Your source relationships remain entirely your own, and source anonymity is strictly guaranteed. To safeguard your strategic standing, any association between you and our public-facing products can be completely omitted.
This is a freelance, remote position. We provide flexible, mutually negotiated fund allocations to ensure your field operations and research are fully supported.
