Position description

The Political Affairs Lead plays a critical role in advancing GSK’s advocacy objectives by strategically managing and evolving the GSK Political Action Committee (PAC), grassroots, and related political engagement activities. This role is responsible for ensuring excellence in compliance and governance while creating a proactive, integrated, and impactful plan for engaging employees that is aligned with GSK’s government affairs priorities and values.

As the role evolves, the Political Affairs Lead will serve as a strategic partner to US Commercial Communications and Government Affairs (US CGA) leadership—driving PAC growth, strengthening employee engagement, improving internal education, and positioning the GSK PAC as a credible, well‑governed, and effective advocacy tool. The Political Affairs Lead will report to the Head, Federal Government Affairs as part of the US CGA function.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Integration

  • Align PAC strategy, activity, and investment with GSK’s government affairs and public policy priorities.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to US CGA leadership in advancing political engagement goals.
  • Provide insights, trend analysis, and recommendations related to political engagement, PAC activities, and external developments.
  • Support long‑term PAC planning, including growth, sustainability, and engagement strategies.
  • Engage senior leaders to drive increased participation, visibility, and educational outreach.

Engagement, Education & Communications

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase PAC participation among eligible employees, with a focus on historically under‑engaged segments.
  • Create clear, compelling, and compliant educational materials explaining the PAC’s purpose, impact, and rules.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders (including Policy, Communications, Legal, and others) to develop targeted messaging that demonstrates PAC impact and relevance.
  • Support PAC Board, leadership, and employee communications to foster informed, voluntary participation.
  • Help build a culture of transparency, understanding, and ethical political engagement.

Compliance & Governance Excellence

  • Maintain full compliance with all applicable federal election laws, FEC regulations, and internal GSK policies.
  • Serve as a trusted liaison with Legal, Compliance, and external PAC vendors.
  • Proactively identify, escalate, and mitigate compliance and governance risks.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and transparent reporting, documentation, and audit readiness.

PAC Operations & Program Management

  • Oversee day‑to‑day PAC operations, including contribution processing, disbursements, vendor management, and recordkeeping.
  • Establish and maintain calendars, controls, workflows, and documentation governing PAC activities.
  • Continuously improve operational processes, tools, and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Ensure continuity, institutional knowledge, and operational resilience within the PAC program.

Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Track, analyze, and communicate PAC performance metrics including participation, growth, engagement, and activity.
  • Prepare regular dashboards and updates for US CGA leadership.
  • Use data, feedback, and benchmarking to recommend program enhancements and best practices.
  • Monitor peer PAC and industry trends to inform program evolution.

What Success Looks Like

  • Increased understanding, engagement, and participation among eligible employees—particularly senior leaders.
  • Strong alignment between GSK’s PAC activities and advocacy priorities.
  • Consistent, reliable compliance with PAC and lobbying disclosure requirements.
  • Proactive identification and resolution of operational and governance challenges.
  • High confidence from leadership, Legal, and Compliance in the PAC’s oversight and strategic value.
  • A modernized PAC program that clearly communicates its impact and relevance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant certification preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in political affairs, government relations, PAC management, compliance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal election law, FEC regulations, and corporate PAC governance.
  • Experience working with senior leaders and cross‑functional corporate stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, and project management skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to anticipate risk and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethics, compliance, and transparency.
