About Global Greengrants Fund:

Global Greengrants Fund supports grassroots groups and civil society organisations around the world working to address environmental and social justice in over 160 countries. Global Greengrants applies a participatory and decentralised model in making grants to grassroots groups through regional and thematic boards of advisors, global partner networks, and independent funds, to support grassroots environmental and social justice action. Global Greengrants Fund believes solutions to environmental harm and social injustice come from people whose lives are most impacted. Every day, our global network of people on the frontlines and donors comes together to support communities to protect their ways of life and our planet. Because when local people have a say in the health of their food, water, and resources, they are forces for change.

Global Greengrants Fund comprises two organisations located in the USA, Global Greengrants Fund Inc. (established in 1993), and Global Greengrants Fund UK (established in 2012). The two organisations work closely together with a shared grantmaking programme and strategic collaboration at the senior leadership level.

In 2025, Global Greengrants Fund is amid a transformative journey in which we collectively centre our values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion and organisational care in our work, and to rediscover our identity and potential after 30 years of work. The Program Coordinator, Energy, needs to understand the challenges and opportunities that come with these transformations and is able to remain flexible, steady, and adaptable.

The role:

Global Greengrants Fund is looking to hire a passionate individual who will play a key role in collaborating across teams and our global network to carry out Global Greengrats’ Energy Impact Area strategy. The Program Coordinator, Energy, is responsible for coordinating and supporting the delivery of programmatic work that strengthens grassroots leadership in contesting unjust energy systems and advancing just and equitable energy transitions. This role is central to advancing Global Greengrants’ strategic goals by supporting relevant systems, processes, and relationships that promote climate justice, equity, and environmental transformation.

The Program Coordinator will be a key resource to the Vice President of Programs by helping to coordinate cross-team efforts, supporting the development and implementation of Energy strategies, and contributing to ongoing learning, reflection, and impact analysis. Their role involves both independent execution and close collaboration with internal teams, Advisory Boards, and external partners to ensure that Global Greengrants’ programmatic work is well-aligned, responsive, and rooted in the lived realities and leadership of grassroots movements.

In the present accountability structures, the Program Coordinator, Energy, is line managed by the Vice President of Programs. The Coordinator supports strategic alignment, program coordination, and continuous learning within the Energy Impact Area. They will help lead and monitor programmatic initiatives that center on collaboration, shared leadership, and movement-defined priorities.

The candidate profile:

The successful applicant will have significant relevant experience in program coordination, grantmaking, or advocacy within nonprofit, international, or social justice organizations, particularly those working in environmental, feminist, gender, Indigenous, or human rights contexts. They demonstrate strong knowledge of environmental justice movements and the role that frontline communities play in contesting fossil fuel systems and shaping more equitable, sustainable, and locally beneficial renewable energy futures. They have a proven ability to coordinate programmatic activities, manage relationships, and support strategies that elevate grassroots priorities and movement-led action.

They have substantial experience supporting cross-functional program implementation, learning processes, and knowledge-sharing practices that reflect the goals of decentralized and participatory philanthropy. They are skilled in managing timelines, tracking progress against strategy, and helping translate movement knowledge into programmatic insights and organizational learning.

They demonstrate excellent program coordination and organisational skills, and the ability to ensure accuracy of work and demonstrate precise attention to detail. They will have skills to give, receive, and work with feedback constructively. They will demonstrate abilities to create a values-aligned environment of trust, equity, and accountability in our work and mission. They also thrive in a virtual environment, motivated to take on challenges and collaboratively find innovative and creative solutions. Multiple language skills would be ideal, while English fluency is a must.

The right candidate will understand Global Greengrants’ core values and be committed to the guiding principles and mission of Global Greengrants, and ensure they uphold them in the way they take up the responsibilities of the role.
