Position description

The British Embassy Quito’s Political Team is recruiting an intern to support the UK’s diplomatic mission in Ecuador. If you are curious about international affairs, this is your chance to get hands-on experience.

The intern will primarily support the Political and Communications Team at the British Embassy in Quito. The role will focus on political research and analysis on key developments in Ecuador and the region, as well as communications for the Embassy. The intern will also assist with public diplomacy, community engagement, and event organisation. This opportunity offers valuable professional experience for an Ecuadorian university student with a strong interest in international affairs and UK foreign policy.

Roles and responsibilities:

The intern will support the political, communications and projects team across a wide range of activities, including:

      • Conduct research and draft briefings on political, social, and economic issues relevant to UK interests.
      • Monitor local media and political developments, providing timely analysis and summaries.
      • Support the production of internal and external political reports.
      • Assist with the Embassy’s communications efforts, including social media content and public messaging.
      • Contribute to the planning and delivery of Embassy events and outreach activities.
      • Provide logistical and administrative support for official visits and cross-team initiatives.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

      • Eligible under the relevant Ecuadorean legal requirements, namely that you must be currently enrolled in a Higher Education institution at an undergraduate level in an Ecuadorean University.
      • Interest in communication and political issues.
      • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
      • Proficient in Microsoft Office
      • Ability to respond flexibly to changing priorities.
      • Experience of managing various pieces of work at the same time.
      • You must have the legal status to live and work in Ecuador.

Language requirements:

Language: English and Spanish

Level of language required: Fluent in both languages, both orally and in writing

Please note, these will be assessed at interview stage

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

      • Experience and interest working with relevant design and content production programmes– video editing, social media management tools – and of photography/filming for social media campaigns, ideally Canva.
      • Knowledge of the UK and its international priorities.
