Position description

ONE is a global, nonpartisan organization fighting for a more just world by demanding the investments needed to create economic opportunities and healthier lives in Africa. We do this by deploying trusted and dynamic advocacy that leverages hard-hitting data, credible grassroots activism, creative political engagement, and strategic partnerships. We use all this to influence decision-makers to take action and tackle the world’s biggest challenges. Read more at www.one.org.

About the Opportunity:

The Policy and Advocacy Intern will work with our EU team to support our policy and advocacy-related activities. The internship will be for 6 months in duration, beginning as soon as possible, and will be based in our Brussels office.

In this role you will:

      • Monitor European Parliament’s key committees and delegations, processes, hearings and partners for opportunities related to ONE’s work, taking thorough notes and reporting back to the Policy & Advocacy team,

      • Collect, analyse, and edit reports on issues related to ONE’s EU policy and advocacy priorities,

      • Schedule, prepare and attend internal and external meetings and events, taking thorough notes and reporting back to the Policy & Advocacy team,

      • Support the Campaigns team with logistics for key events e.g. the launch of our yearly Youth Ambassador programme,

      • Monitor EU and African current affairs and keep the Policy & Advocacy team informed,

      • Draft blogs and content for ONE’s social media channels & website as needed, in collaboration with the Advocacy Coordinator,

      • Keep the policy & advocacy contact database up to date,

      • Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

What we need from you:

      • Student or recent graduate in International Development, Economics, Politics, Social Science, or the equivalent,

      • Excellent experience of MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),

      • Demonstrable interest in campaigning, development issues, and Africa,

      • Strong understanding of the EU institutions and EU policy-making,

      • Excellent analytical and organizational capacities,

      • Strong sense of teamwork and collaboration,

      • Ability to consistently apply good judgment and make good and responsible decisions,

      • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times.

Travel:

No travel required.

Language Skills:

Proficiency in English, both verbal and written, is essential to the role. Proficiency in other EU Member States’ languages is a strong asset.

Physical/Work Environment:

The position requires two mandatory in-office days per week (the same for the whole team), with the possibility to work remotely up to three days per week.
