Job Description: The Division of Teacher Residency and Education of the University of South Dakota’s School of Education invites applicants for an open Instructor or Lecturer of Teacher Education – Generalist position. The opening is a nine-month position that will serve our Vermillion and Sioux Falls campuses and includes the possibility of summer teaching for additional compensation. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate coursework across the curriculum in Teacher Education, including courses in areas such as early childhood education, literacy education, math education, social studies education, English as a second language, special education, and educational technology. Additional assignments may be made based on the professional and academic background of the applicant to complement the strengths of Division faculty and to address the needs of students in programs within the Division of Teacher Residency and Education, School of Education, and university community. Faculty members in both the instructor and lecturer ranks are expected to make contributions in teaching and service, including mentoring and advising students in and out of the classroom. Our teacher education programs are CAEP accredited and widely respected for preparing highly qualified and effective educators.
Qualifications: Applicants for the instructor rank must possess an earned masters, while applicants for the lecturer rank must possess an earned doctorate by August 22, 2025. Applicant degrees must be earned from an accredited institution in Curriculum & Instruction, or another closely related teacher education discipline (Literacy Education, Math Education, Educational Technology, Special Education, etc.). Applicants must show evidence of accomplishments or strong potential for success in teaching and professional service. Applicants must be able to teach courses in multiple curricular areas, including early childhood education, math education, social studies education, English as a second language, special education, and educational technology. Preference will be given to those applicants who (a) can teach courses in early childhood education, and (b) have at least three years of experience in PK-12 schools.
