Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace, and Security

<div class="prose-job-description“>

Position description

The Hillary Rodham Clinton Research Fellowship is a one-year program that provides unique opportunities to a recent PhD or master’s level graduate to conduct rigorous, policy-oriented research to address key knowledge gaps in the field of Women, Peace and Security (WPS). Fellows should have working knowledge of the WPS Agenda and related US and international policy frameworks.

The selected fellow will be based at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security in Washington, D.C., and undertake an agreed-upon research program, working together with Institute staff, other fellows, and external partners. Candidates must have a background or demonstrated interest in gender as it relates to International Affairs, particularly in conflict-affected and fragile settings.

Those with knowledge related to the intersection of WPS with the following research priorities are especially encouraged to apply: peacebuilding, peacekeeping, masculinity, conflict-related sexual violence, backlash against gender equality, democratic backsliding, conflict mediation, emerging technology, critical minerals, IHL, development, women’s economic empowerment, and climate security. Please indicate if you have specialized country or regional expertise, or language skills, particularly in countries represented in our WPS Conflict Tracker.

The fellow is expected to author and co-author influential research papers and policy notes that will be published by the Institute. The fellowship will also provide opportunities to present and disseminate research findings at conferences, convenings, and briefings for relevant stakeholders.

To be eligible, applicants must be in the final semester of an advanced degree (PhD or master’s) or have graduated with an advanced degree within the past three years. Preference will be given to Georgetown University alumni.

Selection Criteria

  • A strong academic record with a graduate degree in political science, public policy, conflict resolution, international or national security, international development, international relations, law, economics, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to communicate research findings to the policy community.
  • Ability to apply an intersectional gender lens to the analysis of conflict and crisis.
  • Working knowledge of the WPS field.
  • A demonstrated interest in and commitment to closing gender gaps and other dimensions of inequality.
  • Skills in qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies.
  • Ability to work independently to produce original insights and generate new research ideas.
  • Record of publishing either in online or print outlets (desirable).
