We are now looking for afull-time Philanthropy Associate, which is a dual role within The Guardian andtheguardian.org, a US-based 501c3 non-profit with the mission to advance public discourse and citizen participation around the most pressing issues of our time through the support of independent journalism and editorial projects at the Guardian.

The Philanthropy Associate will support the operational functions of the Philanthropy team, particularly as it relates to individual giving. Their core responsibilities will include database management, project management, donor stewardship, and prospect research.

The Philanthropy Associate will join a small and collaborative Philanthropy team (6 people total, including this role). They will report directly to the Individual Giving Officer and work closely with the Executive Director; VP of Philanthropy, Strategic Partnerships and Events; the Head of Impact Strategy and Philanthropy; and Operations Specialist.

Terms and conditions:Full-time, permanent

Annual Salary Range:$65,000-70,000

About the Role

The Philanthropy Associate role is a unique opportunity for a professional interested in non-profit fundraising and journalism. Their core responsibilities will include:

      • Gift Processing:Process and enter gifts for mail and web donations accurately and efficiently, including the timely preparation of acknowledgement letters. Maintain accurate donor listings on theguardian.org’s website.
      • Database management and data analysis:Enter and maintain donor data to ensure accurate recordkeeping and reporting; pull regular reports for philanthropy staff and maintain dashboards to ensure effective donor management.
      • Donor Correspondence:Respond to donor inquiries for the Philanthropy inbox, and support other donor correspondence and/or mailings, including support with fundraising campaign materials (list preparation, mailing production, etc).
      • Prospect Research:Support the research and qualification process for individual donors to theguardian.org.
      • Events & Travel Support:Support logistics for any events for theguardian.org (such as reservations, catering, and tracking RSVPs), and support travel logistics and expenses for Philanthropy staff.
      • Assist with meeting scheduling and other duties as assigned.

About You

      • You have at least 1-2 years of previous work experience, ideally in a non-profit or in non-profit fundraising.
      • You have excellent computer skills (Google Workspace and Microsoft Office) and experience with databases of some kind.
      • You have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
      • You have impeccable attention to detail, with the ability to manage sensitive information with respect and integrity.
      • You have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with diverse audiences internally and externally.
