Position description
The Department of Political Science and Public Policy at St. Mary’s College of Maryland is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Political Science beginning August 2026. Faculty members teach three courses per semester, advise undergraduate students, supervise senior projects, engage in scholarship and professional activities, and fulfill departmental and college-level service responsibilities. Faculty are expected to teach in-person classes supported by methodologies that promote students’ engagement. An interest in attracting and retaining students from underrepresented groups is desirable.
Qualifications include a doctorate in political science or a related field (may be ABD at the time of Application if degree completion by August 2026 is certain), college-level teaching experience, a strong desire to teach undergraduates, and a record of, or demonstrated promise of, high-quality intellectual contributions. The ideal candidate will specialize in International Relations or Comparative Politics. Candidates with experience teaching international or comparative political economy, as well as undergraduate research methods, are preferred. We particularly encourage applications from scholars whose work focuses on geographic regions outside Latin America, as we aim to complement our department’s existing strengths with diverse global perspectives.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, with a range from $72,000 – $78,000.
