Position description

Adjunct Instructor, Political Science

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and deliver course content for assigned political science courses, including syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments, in alignment with approved curricula and learning outcomes.
  • Facilitate engaging and effective instruction using appropriate delivery methods (online, hybrid, or face-to-face), incorporating lectures, discussions, and interactive learning activities.
  • Create and maintain an inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation, critical thinking, and respectful academic discourse.
  • Design, administer, and evaluate assessments to measure student learning and academic progress, providing timely and constructive feedback.
  • Maintain regular communication with students through scheduled office hours, electronic communication, and learning management systems.
  • Utilize learning management systems and instructional technologies to deliver course materials, track student progress, and support instructional objectives.
  • Adhere to institutional policies, academic standards, and accreditation requirements, including recordkeeping, grading deadlines, and FERPA compliance.
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or ABD) in Political Science or a closely related discipline.
  • Two (2) years’ of experience at the collegiate level.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of core political science principles relevant to assigned courses, including American government, political theory, comparative politics, international relations, and public policy.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional strategies for higher education, including online or hybrid course delivery and student engagement techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of political science principles relevant to assigned courses (e.g., American government, political theory, comparative politics, international relations, or public policy).
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional technologies used for course delivery, assessment, and communication.
  • Skill in communicating complex political concepts clearly through written and verbal instruction.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to manage course materials, grading, and student communications.
  • Ability to assess student learning using appropriate evaluation methods and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and course content to diverse learning needs, student feedback, and current developments in the discipline.
  • Ability to maintain academic standards, professionalism, and compliance with institutional policies and FERPA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively teach in an online, hybrid, or face-to-face instructional environment.
  • Proficiency in using learning management systems and instructional technologies to support course delivery and student engagement.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
