Position description
As a key member of the Neglected Tropical Diseases team’s business team, the Senior Program Manager (SPM) is responsible for managing the business operations for the NTD team, including oversight of strategic planning & execution, ongoing pipeline and portfolio management, managing the rhythm of the business and all-team meeting management and business analytics and reporting. The SPM will also play a role in leading key strategic projects for a team that is at a critical juncture as the external ecosystem for Neglected Tropical Diseases shifts dramatically.
Reporting to the Deputy Director of Strategy, Planning and Management, the SPM will also support the NTD leadership team in identification of opportunities to increase impact of business team.
What You’ll Do
- Lead portfolio management, strategic planning & execution, and operational processes for NTDs, which may include the full investment development process, annual planning, budget management and forecasting. Provides critical support to program leadership in translating strategy goals into coherent, prioritized portfolio and investment plan;
- Consult/strategize with program leadership to increase impact of investment and financial processes and ensure optimal learning, decision making, and collaboration;
- Proactively and intentionally manage team ROB’s to ensure meeting cadence is lean, and content covered in established forums is valuable;
- Monitor and actively coordinate cross-team collaboration to make sure everyone knows what they are responsible for, are getting the support they need, are connecting with the right people, etc.;
- Drive selected, priority projects, in support of programmatic BoWs and/or portfolios;
- Expertly facilitate process definition and improvement efforts in support of staff productivity. Work with program staff to identify process gaps and inefficiencies that impede effectiveness. Promote efficiency and productivity on the team by providing leadership and support in process development and improvement, implementation and improvement of tools, analysis, reporting and change management;
- Provide DDSPM and team leadership team with critical, transparent, challenging thought partnership; represent NTDs in division and foundation forums;
- Build and develop direct reports; foster a high-performance, inclusive culture. Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
Your Experience
- Master’s degree with 7+ years of work experience or equivalent combination;
- Intellectual quickness, curiosity, discipline, resourcefulness and resilience;
- Demonstrated ability to work with diplomacy, flexibility, efficiency, and enthusiasm in a fast-paced and complex internal and external environment;
- A record of getting things done, of driving clarity amidst ambiguity, and finding a mutually agreeable path forward out of competing priorities;
- Track record of inclusive people management and demonstrated experience in coaching and developing talent. The ability to foster equitable and inclusive practices to create a work environment where everyone can do their best work;
- Strong judgment with a demonstrated ability to handle complex issues, multiple tasks, and confidential information with skill, discretion, a strong attention to detail, flexibility and diplomacy;
- Demonstrated record of thought partnership and coordination with senior staff;
- Proven program and partner management skills: ability to coordinate inputs from many people; to track progress against targets and identify barriers to progress; to plan agendas and facilitate meetings; and to organize, evaluate, and communicate information;
- Ability to act independently and decisively to determine the best course of action, methods, and procedures on assignments;
- Deep knowledge of strategy development and end-to-end complex project management (including process design, team structure, critical thinking requirements, development of novel communication resources and external/senior stakeholder engagement);
- Comfortable with highly unstructured and ambiguous situations; ability to proactively resolve;
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills. You must possess excellent relationship management skills to develop trusting and productive relationships with a wide range of colleagues, dignitaries, leaders, grantees, consultants and other partners;
- Excellent software skills with Microsoft Office applications, including a demonstrated ability to convey complex information using supporting tables, graphs and other visual representations;
