Position description

In the School of Policy and International Affairs, one or more courses may be offered to part-time, temporary faculty members during spring and/or fall 2026. Courses available could include War to Peace Transitions; International Security; U.S. Foreign Policy; Global Politics; U.S. Intelligence Community.

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: syllabus development aligned with departmental expectations, lesson planning, assignment design, grading, office hours, correspondence with students, use of an online learning management system and/or other instructional software, course coordination meetings with other faculty members, and required orientation and training.

Positions require teaching in person on campus.

Part-time temporary faculty members may be rehired in subsequent semesters based on course availability, schedule, funding, and performance. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.About the University:The University of Maine is a community of more than 11,900 undergraduate and graduate students, and 2,500 employees located on the Orono campus, the regional campus in Machias, and throughout the state.       • Master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, or a closely related field.
      • Academic preparation adequate for the courses to be taught.

Preferred:

      • At least two years’ college teaching experience.
      • Five to ten years’ of professional experience related to policy-making and the subject matter of courses to be taught.
