Position Title:MIS Officer

Department: Information Technology

Reports To: Senior ICT and Systems Manager

Location: Remote / Outside Afghanistan

Vacancy No: AF-N-12-2026

AUAF Background:

The American University of Afghanistan is Afghanistan’s only nationally accredited, private, not-for- profit, non-partisan, and coeducational institution of higher education. It opened its doors in 2006 with an initial enrollment of 50 students, and since that time has grown to enroll more than 1,700 full- and part- time students across undergraduate, graduate, and professional training programs. Despite a changing political and security climate in Afghanistan, AUAF has successfully lived up to its mission to provide equal access to high-quality higher education across gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic background. Nearly half of our undergraduate students are female, and generous support from the U.S. government and other funding partners as allowed us to support a secure, inclusive, residential campus environment in Kabul. Our professional community comprises a diverse, talented Afghan and international faculty and staff who work together in support of our students and toward a sustainable, ambitious future for the provision of American-style education in Afghanistan.

Position Summary

The MIS Officer is responsible for the administration, support, and optimization of enterprise MIS

applications, including focusing on data quality management, Application technical support,

reporting accuracy, and system usability, ensuring reliable, timely, and high-quality information

services across AUAF.

Key Outcomes

The MIS Officer will:

      • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across MIS applications.
      • Provide advanced application technical support and troubleshooting across applications.
      • Improve system usability and responsiveness through proactive analysis and optimization.
      • Deliver reliable operational and analytical reports that support decision-making.
      • Support stable, secure, and well-documented information systems operations.

Responsibilities

      • Administer, maintain, and optimize existing management information systems and databases.
      • Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution of application and data-related issues.
      • Monitor, validate, and improve data quality through controls, and validation rules.
      • Collaborate to enhance system-based solutions and improve adoption and effective usage.
      • Design, develop, and maintain standard and ad-hoc reports based on departmental

requirements.

  • Support implementation, deployment, and enhancement of new information systems and

system modules.

  • Manage backup, recovery, and data protection processes across all applications.
  • Assist in system security, access controls, and compliance with data management standards.
  • Prepare and maintain system documentation, user guides, and technical procedures.
  • Provide user training and ongoing support to ensure staff effectiveness in using information

systems.

  • Produce periodic operational and performance reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) for Senior

ICT and Systems Manager.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to data management, reporting, and

application support.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Senior ICT and Systems Manager.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a

related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in MIS, application support, or information systems

administration.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and supporting enterprise information systems.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, including query optimization and data validation.
  • Experience with SSIS and SSRS for data integration and reporting.
  • Knowledge of web application technologies (.NET, ASP.NET Core, C#) is desirable.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and business intelligence tools is an advantage.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

      • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

      • Flexibility to provide extended support outside standard working hours when required.
      • Results-oriented mindset with focus on system reliability, data quality, and user satisfaction.
