Position description

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) is a nonprofit organization made up of the architectural licensing boards of 55 U.S. states and territories. NCARB, in collaboration with licensing boards, facilitates the licensure and credentialing of architects to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. About the Position
The Manager, External & International Relations reports to the Assistant Vice President, Advocacy and External Engagement in this highly collaborative role that supports Council-wide initiatives and shared goals and objectives set by NCARB leadership.
The Manager, External & International Relations supports Council relationship building with international and domestic external partners, furthering the Council’s strategic initiatives. This individual has working knowledge of Council programs and services and international relations and provides excellent support to internal and external stakeholders. Incumbent is responsible for monitoring international trends, informing evolving strategy, managing international projects, and developing and editing content to support staff, programs, and services (e.g., meeting agendas, letters, talking points). The incumbent maintains existing partnerships with international regulatory bodies, other relevant organizations, and government entities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Open
      • Under project supervision, this position will support international and external stakeholders and manage the execution of activities so support those relationships.
      • Build coalitions internally and externally (with peers, team members, Member Boards, volunteers, collateral and associated organizations, etc.) to contribute to Council strategic initiatives.
      • Facilitate cooperation and teamwork throughout the organization.
      • Communicate and operate in an open manner so that decisions and actions are clear and visible.
      • Help advise other team members in the completion of their work.
      • Consult with and keep supervisor informed on status of all projects.
Responsive
      • Embrace ownership and take responsibility for the outcomes.

      • Be open to feedback and flexible to changing needs, priorities, and resources.
      • Participate in outreach events as needed.

      • Ensure that the Council builds on these differences to reach unbiased and well-reasoned decisions.
      • Treat customers, colleagues, and employees in a fair and equitable manner.
      • Reinforce organizational branding throughout the Council.
Core Responsibilities – Department Specific
Strategic
      • Contribute to the development and management of the annual work plan for the maintenance, and administration of programs and services in Council Relations External Engagement programs.
      • Consult with the Senior Manager, Policy & International Relations and the Assistant Vice President, Advocacy and External Engagement on identifying ways to grow and expand partnerships with external organizations.
      • Collaborate with the team to regularly assess the efficiencies of Advocacy and External Engagement policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure best practices and process improvement.
      • Implement policy and procedural changes as adopted.
      • Cultivate cultural competency across all organizational activities, fostering an inclusive environment and ensuring outreach is sensitive to the diverse communities served.
External Engagement
      • Prepare briefings and supporting material for senior level staff and officers for outreach visits to Member Boards, architectural professional societies, state components, and international organizations.
      • Help manage relationships with external partners to advance the Council’s agenda.
Project Management
      • Serve in project management roles for council-wide initiatives.
      • Serve as a staff liaison to Council committees as directed.
      • Compile, analyze, and report program metrics for international programs and initiatives to inform decision- making and progress reports.
      • Manage all aspects of event planning and logistical execution of international and domestic events, including coordinating activities and itineraries for team members and Council leadership and selecting vendors and venues; work with internal and external partners and vendors to ensure meeting and event needs are met.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.       • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, International Relations, Public Policy or related field; or, combination of substantial related experience, training, and education may substitute.
      • Three or more years of relevant experience managing and supporting program/project or outreach work in non- profit associations, government, regulatory entities, or similar environments.
      • Strong analytical skills and competence to undertake assignments with minimal supervision, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and verbal communication and well-developed presentation and reporting skills.
      • Prior experience with non profit or international organizations desired.
      • The ability to build strong relationships with internal and external customers.
      • Attention to detail and can coordinate multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
      • Demonstrated proficiency using technology and a wide variety of software applications to include Adobe (PDF) Applications and Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point and state legislative tracking services.
      • Experience in an agile environment preferred.
      • Travel (including weekends) may be required.
