Brock University’s Teacher Education Program is located on two campuses. Brock University’s second campus is in the City of Burlington, with ready access to the surrounding city and the QEW.

About the Position

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a 2-Year Instructional Limited Term Appointment, in the Department of Educational Studies, in Visual Arts Education, in the Primary/Junior/Intermediate Teacher Education Program. This position involves teaching Visual Arts Education pedagogy across three divisions (Primary, Junior and Intermediate). The two (2) year appointment, subject to budgetary approval, will commence September 1, 2025.

The successful candidate will have expertise in the area of Visual Arts Education, broadly defined to include pedagogies in Grades K-10 schooling and have familiarity with the Ontario Grade 1-8 and 9-10 Arts Curriculum (P/J/I divisions).

Experience with Visual Arts Education in Ontario including the Visual Arts curriculum and teaching Visual Arts at the P/J and J/I level is essential. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is required.

Preferred candidates will have:

(1) A completed doctorate or equivalent in Art Education or a related field is required. Doctoral candidates who are ABD may be considered if they meet the other qualifications Equivalency for Indigenous candidates will also be considered.

(2) experience in university teaching and curriculum development in face-to-face and blended learning environments, particularly in Visual Arts education pedagogy in a teacher education program,

(3) experience teaching at the Primary/Junior/Intermediate levels (K-10),

(4) experience in inquiry-based, experiential, place-based, and anti-oppressive pedagogies,

(5) familiarity with Indigenous perspectives in Arts Education and the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action related to education,

(6) integration of equity, environmental justice, and citizenship education,

(7) facility with Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive pedagogy,

(8) familiarity with the use of digital and multimodal platforms in their teaching, organizational planning and lesson delivery (e.g., Brightspace, Google Slides, Canva, Microsoft Suite),

(9) evidence of strong connections with Visual Arts Education organizations at the local, provincial and national level, and

(10) Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification or equivalent qualification, along with knowledge of the OCT’s Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards.

This ILTA position is a teaching intensive position with the main responsibility being teaching the following two methods courses at both the St. Catharines and Burlington campuses in Brock University’s Teacher Education Program:

EDBE 8Y27 – The Arts In and Across the Curriculum: Visual Arts Primary/Junior

EDBE 8Y28 – The Arts In and Across the Curriculum: Visual Arts Junior/Intermediate

The successful candidate may be required to teach additional courses in the Teacher Education Program. Details about courses offered in the Teacher Education Program may be found at the following link: Teacher Education – 2025-2026 Undergraduate Calendar

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to decolonization, reconciliation, anti-racism, and social and ecological justice issues within teacher education preservice learning contexts in course design and teaching.

We welcome candidates sharing their research program, experiences, and scholarly and teaching recognition.
