Director, Exceptional Education

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Possess Administrator’s License by the State of Mississippi
  • Possess a minimum of three years classroom teaching experience, two of which must have been spent implementing and writing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

Reports To

Executive Director of Exceptional Education

Supervises

Assigned Exceptional Education Staff

Job Goal

Coordinates, assists, monitors, and evaluates all special education programs

Essential Functions

  • Possesses a working knowledge of current federal and state laws for students with disabilities
  • Assists the Executive Director in managing the day-to-day operations of the Office of Exceptional Education Services
  • Establishes and maintains a collaborative working relationship with school administrators and EES support staff to ensure appropriate programming for students with disabilities and compliance with federal and state mandates
  • Assists EES staff with schools and teachers who need additional support regarding programming and compliance
  • Addresses issues between schools and parents to appropriate resolutions
  • Remains abreast of best practices in exceptional education and assists with the development and implementation of professional development and district-wide programming
  • Assists in communicating the relationship between regular education and exceptional education programs
  • Assists in the development of long-range plans for meeting the needs of all students with disabilities
  • Exhibits effective leadership skills to maximize the efficiency of the Office of Exceptional Education Services
  • Initiates and assists in revising policies and procedures within the Office of Exceptional Education Services
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
