The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, for better production, better nutrition, a better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

FAO is a specialized agency of the UN that leads international efforts to defeat hunger. FAO’s goal is to achieve food security for all and ensure that people have regular access to enough high-quality food to lead active, healthy lives. With 195 Members (194 countries and the European Union), FAO works in over 130 countries worldwide.

The Green Climate Fund has approved the Government of India’s GCF Readiness Proposal “Agriculture Sector Readiness for enhanced climate finance in India” It aims to enhance India’s capacity to develop sub-national climate finance investment programs and projects linked to adaptation and resilience priorities for the agriculture sector. 

The project will be implemented in close coordination with the National Designated Authority (NDA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. The target states are – Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Punjab

 Responsibilities:

  • •    Provide technical inputs on the intersections of agriculture and climate change, ensuring project outputs align with climate resilience and mitigation objectives.
  • •    Conduct agro-climatic assessments using FAO toolkits and methodologies for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Punjab.
  • •    Develop projected climate scenarios to evaluate the impacts of climate change on agriculture and allied sectors, using relevant simulation models.
  • •    Identify critical geographic locations for promoting climate-resilient agriculture using GIS and other assessment tools.
  • •    Conduct in-depth literature and policy research on climate change impacts in agriculture, focusing on vulnerabilities, gender and mitigation and adaptation for all the targeted states.  
  • •    Participate in developing preparatory materials for the consultative workshops for the participating states.
  • •    Provide support to coordinate the needed inputs from project experts and government counterparts. 
  • •    Participate with multidisciplinary teams in preparing and writing final reports.
  • •    Assist the GCF team in collecting data through methods such as surveys, interviews, observations, or experiments, ensuring accuracy and reliability that relates to agriculture.
  • •    Participate in meetings and workshops as part of the project and other events aligned with the project objectives and outcomes.
  • •    Assist in preparing working papers, or presentations for meetings, workshops, conferences or publications related to GCF.
  • •    Collaborate with other GCF team members to contribute to the overall goals of the project.
  • •    Identify and troubleshoot any issues or challenges that arise during the research process that could delay the project deliverables.
  • •    Assist in any other tasks under multidisciplinary projects and programmes at the instruction of the FAOR, and AFAOR.
  • •    Undertake travel outside the duty station to participate in meetings, workshops, and other events aligned with the project objectives and outcomes

Minimum Requirements   :

  • •    University degree in applying technical tools like GIS, big data access, etc.
  • •    Four  years of relevant experience in Climate Risk Assessment and GIS
  • •    Working knowledge of English
  • •    National of India or resident of the country with valid work permit.
