The Italy, Malta, Greece, Cyprus Division (IMGC) deals with the legal documentation and legal issues for projects in the following countries: Italy, Malta, Greece and Cyprus. Together with other legal counsels, and under the authority of the Head of Division and Head of Department, the successful candidates will deliver legal support to the operational directorates.

As a Banking and Finance Lawyer, internally referred as a (Associate) Officer Legal Services, you will act under the authority of the Head of Division, in cooperation with the other lawyers of the Unit and will collaborate with all other Divisions in the Legal Department – EU Operations, depending on the project.

Accountabilities:

You will carry out work related to all of the Division’s responsibilities and work independently on financing operations in particular, with relation to projects in Italy. The post may involve a certain amount of travel for negotiations and signatures of legal documentation. You will:

  • Manage contacts and negotiations concerning the EIB operations handled by the Division in autonomy, working with various counterparts 
  • Draft documents, provide advisory legal support, finalise contracts, complete all related legal formalities and legal monitoring (including restructuring and other post-signature events), with or without the assistance of external counsel 
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new products within the geographical remit of the Division 
  • Understand and implement in contractual documentation the specificities arising from the various mandates underpinning the Division’s activities
  • Contribute to the development of standard legal documentation within the Division’s areas of activity
  • Participate in horizontal activities of relevance to the Division
  • Liaise with external consultants and supervise their work
  • Undertake legal research on legal matters and developments of significance to the Division’s interests
  • Keep up to date with legal developments in legislation, regulations and jurisprudence pertaining to the Division’s activities 
  • Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank 

Qualifications :

  • University degree in law in Italy; professional legal qualification and admission to the Italian bar is required. An additional qualification as an English solicitor would be an advantage.
  • Post-graduate legal studies (LLM or equivalent) would be an advantage. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, mainly in the field of banking and finance, including structured finance and/or project financing/PPP transactions, ideally acquired in a major international law firm, a domestic Italian law firm of international standing and reputation, and/or the in-house legal department of a financial institution.
  • Experience in the drafting and negotiation of finance documentation in Italian and in English, ability to argue convincingly and achieve consensus among colleagues and third parties on legal problems.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian and English and good knowledge of French (**). Knowledge of other EU languages would be an asset.
