UN-Habitat ROAS covers all the operational activities and projects in 18 countries across the Arab Region; currently, with 12 active country programmes. This position is located at the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States in Cairo, Egypt. The incumbent will work Uunder the direct supervision of the Senior Humanitarian Affairs Officer and the overall supervision of the Regional Representative for Arab States

Responsibilities

  • Undertake research and provide background information to support formulation of regional programmes.         
  • Work in coordination with relevant branches at HQ to support mainstreaming relevant themes into ROAS projects as regional focal point.       
  • Initiate regional activities to enhance women and youth engagement in urban issues in the Arab region, in cooperation with partners.         
  • Identify opportunities for new programme/project development including joint programming with UN agencies.         
  • Analyse, research, and provide inputs for preparation of substantive briefs on possible areas of cooperation and identify opportunities to initiate new projects.         
  • Ensure coordination and networking with UN agencies, clients, stakeholders, and programme partners.     
  • Assist in the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, talking points, inputs to annual reports and publications.   
  • Provide substantive support to events and other meetings, conferences, assist with proposing agenda topics, identifying proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations.   
  • Undertake outreach activities; participate in the organization of workshops, seminars; participate and assist in making presentations on assigned topics/activities.       
  •  Support and coordination of field missions, including provision of substantive support, data collection.
  • Support ROAS donor intelligence and resource mobilization for regional and country-level programmes       
  • Conduct mapping of donors, donor strategies and priorities of assistance, and monitoring of funding opportunities.       
  • Conduct research and analysis of information on existing and new partners.   
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of UN-Habitat ROAS partnerships and resource mobilization strategy.     
  •  Develop ideas and concepts for possible areas of cooperation with relevant UN Agencies and counterparts, as well as funding opportunities for ongoing and new programme and projects.     
  • Support the preparation of donor briefs, partnership profiles and other related products.

 Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in architecture/ urban development, social sciences, business administration, economics, geography or development related field is required.   
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.   
  • Experience in housing and sustainable urban development, with a focus on participatory processes and cross-cutting issues (human rights, gender, youth, climate change is required.   
  • Experience in urban development paradigms and socio-political situation of the Arab Region and the respective sub-regions is desirable.   
  • Experience in the United Nations System or any similar  international organization is desirable.   
  • One (1) year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • For this position, fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable.
