Position description

Franklin College invites applications for the Elmon and Lucile Williams Endowed Chair in Law and Public Service. This is a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in Political Science, to begin in August 2026. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. Located in a vibrant city of 25,000 about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual and professional growth. Please see www.FranklinCollege.edu for more details.

This new hire will join the department and the college at a time of exciting change. The historically strong Political Science program is committed to delivering fundamentals needed in the market today through increasingly immersive and hands-on methods of teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will direct the College’s Pre-Law Program and will:

    • teach three undergraduate courses in Constitutional Law, Business Law, Communications Law, State and Local Government, and/or Public Policy, per semester,
    • teach one section of our First Year Seminar every other year,
    • teach one intensive January Term course every three years,
    • coach the Franklin College Moot Court Team,
    • serve as the primary Pre-Law Advisor for the campus, and
    • advise undergraduate students.

Candidates who can demonstrate prior experience in the above will be given priority. The successful candidate, with approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, will have access to an endowed fund to support programming within the guidelines of the endowment.

Required qualifications include:

    • college-level teaching experience, and
    • an earned Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.

We especially welcome candidates with:

    • professional experience in the legal system, including legal practice, judicial service, or other substantive legal work,
    • a competitive track record of scholarship,
    • interest and/or background in environmental or conservation law, and
    • ability to contribute meaningfully to the College’s commitment to diversity.
