Position description

Located in the fastest-growing region of the state, the University of North Georgia is a multi-campus university with an enrollment of nearly 20,000 students, making it one of the largest institutions in the University System of Georgia. UNG is focused on a mission of educational excellence, leadership development and community engagement opportunities that develop students into leaders for a diverse and global society. Through a variety of educational pathways that provide access and range from certificates and associate degrees to a professional doctoral program, UNG is responsive to regional education and economic development needs. Federally designated as a senior military college, one of the university’s signature leadership programs is its 800-member Corps of Cadets on UNG’s Dahlonega Campus.

Job Summary
 

The University of North Georgia (UNG) is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science & International Affairs (PSIA). The successful candidate will teach on multiple campuses, initially splitting their time between the Dahlonega, Cumming and online courses.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities
 

  • The Department is looking to add a faculty member focusing on international relations / comparative politics with a Western European and European Union focus; teaching 12 hours per semester (4/4; undergraduate; face to face and potentially fully online). 
  • The candidate must be able to teach the following courses; Intro to European Union, Politics of Western Europe, and other Western or European focused classes. The successful candidate will teach two introductory level courses either introduction to international relations and/or introduction to comparative politics. 
  • The Department has a strong focus on advising and service. Faculty are expected to conduct service at the Departmental level as well as at the College and University levels.
  • Candidates also are expected to engage in research and scholarship as part of the tenure process.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. in political science or a related field.
  • Have a strong background to teach courses on Western European politics and the European Union. 
  • Have taught Intro to international relations or intro to comparative politics.
  • Have experience teaching in online instruction.
  • Are committed to strongly supporting and growing the degree offerings of the Department.
  • Have engaged or are willing to engage in significant advising and service activities.
  • Must have a successful teaching and publication record. Applicants must have a focus in Western European politics and the European Union and be able to teach either intro to international relations or intro to comparative politics.
