Position Description:

The Department of Teacher Education, Kinesiology, and Educational Studies (DTEKES), in the College of Education, invites expressions of interest for part-time faculty teaching opportunities in Early Childhood Education for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. Part-time teaching positions are available throughout the academic year, including summer sessions. Applicants with expertise that matches course scheduling needs will be contacted for an interview. Academic course schedules fluctuate from quarter to quarter and selected individuals will work with department faculty to determine a quarterly schedule. Courses are not guaranteed; however, the Department does its best to give ample notice about available courses and potential course cancellations.

The Early Childhood Education Program seeks applicants with expertise and experience in the following areas:

  • Early Childhood Mental Health (Birth-age 8y)
  • Early Childhood: Infant and Toddler Programs
  • Early Childhood: Preschool and Primary-grade Math and Science
  • Early Childhood: Preschool and Primary-grade Social Studies
  • Early Childhood: Preschool and Primary-grade Integrated Arts Education
  • Early Childhood: ESL/Bilingual/Bicultural Education (Birth-age 8y)
  • Early Childhood: Assessment (Birth-age 8y)
  • Early Growth and Development (Birth-age 8y)
  • Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-age 8y)
  • Early Language and Literacy, Acquisition and Development (Birth-age 8yr)
  • Early Childhood Health, Safety, and Nutrition

The Supplemental Questions pertain to applicants’ expertise in Early Childhood Education (ages Birth-8y).

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a master’s degree in the early childhood-age field. Some courses may require a doctoral degree.
  • The candidate must have demonstrated experience working and teaching in a diverse learning environment with children/adults working with children ages birth through 8y.
  • All applicants for curriculum and instruction (i.e., “methods”) courses must have minimum of five years of licensed teaching experience in the early childhood age span (birth-age 8y).
  • All applicants must have a minimum of three years’ experience in the early childhood or child development (ages birth-8y) fields.

Exceptions to standard rates may apply to courses with unique credit hours, supervision, labs, clinical/practicum courses, coaching, administrative tasks, and courses that are either over-enroled or under-enrolled.

DePaul University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the qualifications, education, experience, and training of the selected candidate, the scope and responsibilities of the position, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

About DePaul University’s Academic Calendar:

Except for the College of Law, DePaul University operates on a quarter system. Classes in Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters are 11 weeks in length (including finals week) and Summer courses, in two sessions, are typically 5 weeks in length. The College of Law operates on the semester system. Classes in the Fall and Spring semesters are 16 weeks in length (including finals week) and it offers a Summer Session of 7 weeks (including final exams).

Salary Information: The anticipated hiring rate of this position is between $3,765 and $4,555 per course, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
