Position description

SUMMARY:

The Digital Advisor and Special Assistant works closely with the President & CEO of the Asia Society, building a social media strategy for the President and executing against it to the benefit of both the Asia Society and the Asia Society Policy Institute. As Special Assistant, this role supports the President & CEO as part of a wider team helping to ensure preparation, implementation, and appropriate coverage of events.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Digital Advisor

      • Create and implement a comprehensive social media strategy for the President, forwarding and widely disseminating his thought leadership, as well as increasing engagement with Asia Society platforms.
      • Create content for and overseeing his social media channels and work seamlessly with Digital and Communications as well as Policy Institute colleagues on content strategy and engagement.
      • Attend Asia Society events as well as events involving the President to capture and create content.
      • Create video and graphics for the President’s and Asia Society’s social channels.
      • Use data and analytics to continuously improve reach and following.
      • Advise the President on social engagement across multiple channels, including through keeping abreast of relevant international developments and identifying strategic opportunities.
      • Help liaise with the President’s Australian-based staff, including to ensure a coherence across his multifaceted engagements.

As Special Assistant

      • Help to manage the execution of the President’s schedule, including ensuring the smooth operation of both virtual and physical engagements as needed, and through acting as a liaison/contact point.
      • Staff the President for external engagements and internal meetings as required, including acting as a rapporteur in those meetings paying particular attention to follow-up actions and important points of nuance for both internal and media needs.
      • Manage the President’s social media engagement on Asia Society-related matters in coordination with the Digital & Communications Department, including identifying and producing relevant content.
      • As required, support the President’s external roles, including with various other international institutions.
      • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

      • Master’s degree preferred, preferably in international relations, political science, communications, marketing or a related field
      • Minimum of 6 to 8 years of related work experience preferred
      • Interest and background in U.S. foreign policy and/or Asian affairs preferred
      • Ability to travel extensively and with little notice, and knowledge and experience with international business travel

Skills and Competencies

      • Outstanding attention to detail, listening and note taking ability, as well as troubleshooting
      • Utmost discretion and ability to always safeguard confidentiality
      • Outstanding oral and written communications skills
      • Proven organizational skills, with a strong ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, work independently, and solve problems
      • Proficiency in an Asian language a plus
      • Strong ability to interact with the public and high-level individuals and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies, including through exercising appropriate discretion
      • Ability to work seamlessly across time zones
      • Team player willing to assist where needed
      • Excellent computer skills including video editing and graphic design software

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary Range: $80,000 – $110,000

Compensation within this range is determined by skills, experience, and organizational equity.
