War Child USA is globally recognized for our grassroots, community-driven model of humanitarian action that’s rooted in collaboration and entirely locally led. We have developed a solid track record of long-term, sustainable impact supporting children and families living in areas dominated by conflict.

War Child USA works with some of the most vulnerable populations around the world and is a leader in developing and implementing programs specifically targeting and protecting children, women, and displaced people living in the most complex humanitarian environments in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, and Yemen.

Location

This consultancy will be conducted primarily on a remote basis. The Consultant must be based in Los Angeles or the surrounding area in order to support in-person donor meetings and fundraising events as required.

Consultancy Objective

The objective of this consultancy is to support War Child USA in strengthening its fundraising capacity and increasing revenue in the United States by delivering tangible fundraising outputs across donor engagement, events, proposal development, and CRM optimization.

Scope of Service

The Consultant will provide ongoing fundraising services in coordination with the Executive Director, based on agreed priorities and workplans.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

        • Provide ongoing support to manage and strengthen engagement with individual, corporate, and foundation donors in the U.S.
        • Support donor stewardship activities, including tailored outreach, acknowledgements, and impact communications.
        • Identify and pursue opportunities for donor upgrades, re-engagement, and new donor prospects.
        • Provide strategic input to improve donor engagement approaches over time.

Fundraising Event Delivery

        • Provide ongoing support to plan and deliver donor cultivation and fundraising events in California and other U.S. locations.
        • Support event-related fundraising efforts, including sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and post-event follow-up.
        • Coordinate event logistics as required and prepare brief event summaries outlining outcomes and lessons learned.

Proposal & Grant Support

        • Provide ongoing support for the development of grant proposals, LOIs, and donor-facing materials.
        • Coordinate with relevant teams to gather programmatic information, budgets, and impact data.
        • Support tracking of submissions, donor commitments, and reporting timelines

Fundraising Systems & Reporting

        • Provide ongoing support to maintain and improve fundraising CRM systems, ensuring accurate donor records.
        • Support data entry, reporting, and analysis to inform fundraising decision-making.
        • Prepare periodic fundraising reports aligned with agreed indicators and priorities.

Work Planning & Deliverables

      • Services will be delivered through rolling workplans agreed between War Child USA and the Consultant.
      • Specific deliverables, outputs, and timelines will be agreed in advance and reviewed periodically.
      • Deliverables may vary over time based on fundraising priorities and organizational needs.

Duration & Level of Effort

      • Expected Duration: Six months
      • Approximately 3 days per week, however, may be adjusted periodically by mutual agreement.
      • The consultancy may be extended subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Fees & Payment

The Consultant will invoice monthly, and payments will be made subject to receipt of a valid invoice and confirmation of delivery of agreed services.

Fees are all-inclusive and cover professional fees, IT equipment, overhead, and any costs associated with the delivery of services, unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Consultant Profile

The Consultant is expected to meet the following requirements:

      • Minimum 3–5 years of professional experience in fundraising, fund development, or nonprofit advancement.
      • Demonstrated track record in donor stewardship, donor communications, and management of donor portfolios.
      • Proven experience in fundraising event sales, planning, and delivery, including donor cultivation and sponsorship engagement.
      • Strong interpersonal, networking, and presentation skills, with the ability to represent War Child USA effectively with donors and partners.
      • Demonstrated experience in grant writing and proposal development for foundations, corporations, and/or major donors.
      • Strong working proficiency with fundraising databases/CRM systems, preferably Raiser’s Edge and/or ETapestry.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality donor-facing materials.
      • Ability to work independently, manage multiple concurrent priorities, and deliver agreed outputs in a remote working environment.
      • Based in Los Angeles, with availability to support occasional in-person meetings and fundraising events as required.
