Agora Energiewende

Agora Energiewende

Position description

Achieving climate neutrality by mid-century requires action across all parts of society. Early investments in clean technologies help cut emissions, enhance energy security and strengthen Europe’s long-term competitiveness. In the face of intensifying climate impacts and geopolitical uncertainty, staying the course towards a climate-neutral economy is more important than ever. Smart policy support can turn climate action into a competitive advantage.

The Agora think tanks – Agora Energiewende, Agora Industry and Agora Agriculture – drive this systemic transformation by developing evidence-based policy solutions, assessing technology options and building international collaborations. As independent and non-partisan think tanks and policy laboratories, we analyse upcoming challenges, share knowledge with decision-makers and stakeholders, inform public debate and enable a productive exchange of ideas.

To strengthen the reach and impact of our work at the European level and in key member states, we are currently looking for a: Press and Communications Officer, Brussels-based, full-or part-time role (min. 30 hrs), (f/m/d).

In this role, you will be part of and coordinate closely with our 18-person communications team based in Berlin, Brussels and Bangkok. You will work across topics at the EU-level and in selected member states, in close cooperation with content teams and local partners. You will help develop narratives and messaging and strengthen Agora’s brand in Brussels, liaise with journalists, maintain and build on a network of communication partnerships, and further develop Agora’s communication strategy.

Your responsibilities include

  • Contributing to Agora’s communication and outreach activities, relating primarily to our work in Brussels and together with partners in key EU member states;
  • Such activities include drafting media pitches and press releases, working with different communication formats, helping to organise press events and producing web and social media content in close collaboration with content leads;
  • Contributing to project management to guide content teams in all communications-related activities such as social media, publications messaging and outreach;
  • Internal communications to help ensure flow of information and knowledge sharing;
  • Liaising with journalists and handling media requests, particularly on our EU-related work in cooperation with relevant colleagues;
  • Further building on a strong network of journalists and liaising with communication colleagues of think tank partners (including the International Network of Energy Transition Think Tanks INETTT);
  • Supporting further development of Agora’s European communication strategy and helping to strengthen the Agora brand in Brussels;
  • Every-day use of Agora’s communication tools like newsletters, social media channels, databases and media monitoring;
  • Supporting in designing and moderating public events;
  • Keeping up with debates and monitoring the political calendar to assess communication opportunities and develop relevant messages;
  • Working closely with communication colleagues in Berlin, Bangkok and Beijing to help ensure consistency in messaging across geographies.

What we offer

  • An opportunity to work in a mission-driven, highly motivated, and international team;
  • Diverse experiences, including professional relationships with colleagues and experts from a variety of countries around the globe;
  • A cooperative work atmosphere with a flat communication and decision-making style;
  • Flexible working hours and a hybrid work environment, with access to an attractive office space in Brussels or Berlin and a good setup to work from home;
  • Team events and other get-togethers with colleagues from around the globe;
  • Opportunities for professional and personal development and advancement, including access to a mental well-being platform;
  • Assistance with the visa process for international candidates;
  • Entitlement to a number of paid leave days significantly higher than the statutory entitlement (exact amount depends on country of employment);
  • A full or part-time role with an unlimited employment duration.

We are looking for

  • Experience and proven track-record in communications, e.g., in the PR-sector or in a similar role in another organisation;
  • Outstanding writing skills and demonstrated experience in producing compelling media/outreach materials:
  • A political mind with the strong desire to help shape the transition to climate neutrality in Europe and beyond;
  • A good understanding of the EU institutions, the decision-making processes and the different roles of Commission, Parliament, and Member States;
  • Good project management skills;
  • Strong collaborative spirit with the desire to work in a diverse team in different geographies;
  • Preferably an understanding of EU energy and climate policies;
  • A confident, practical and entrepreneurial character, with openness to working hands-on and proactively on diverse challenges and topics in parallel;
  • Full command of English language in speaking, reading and writing; other European languages a plus;
  • Proven skills in dealing with social media, ideally including video and audio formats and experience in using CMS (like Typo 3).
