Visiting Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education

Greenwood School of Music, Oklahoma State University

Stillwater, Oklahoma

The Greenwood School of Music seeks a qualified Elementary Music Education specialist. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in Elementary Methods, Introduction to Music Education, Student Teaching Seminar, and mentor and supervise music education majors and student teachers at their elementary placements. Additional duties may include serving as Director of the Greenwood School of Music Preparatory Academy’s Elementary Choir, with other duties assigned according to the candidate’s expertise and the needs of the Music Education Area and School of Music. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain relationships with elementary music educators on the local, regional, and national levels. This position is contingent upon available funding.

The University (25,000 students at its main campus in Stillwater) is located approximately 65 miles from Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The Greenwood School of Music has thirty-six full-time and thirteen part-time faculty members and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. The School offers the degrees of Master of Music (with options in applied music or conducting); Bachelor of Music (with options in music education, performance, and jazz performance); Bachelor of Arts (including a composition option); and Bachelor of Science in Music Industry. The Greenwood School of Music is committed to fostering a supportive environment for all faculty, students, and staff.

Rank and Salary

Visiting Assistant Professor. Salary with benefits commensurate with qualifications.

Qualifications

PhD in Music Education or ABD. A minimum of three years of public-school teaching experience with a broad knowledge of pedagogical approaches in Elementary Music Education and an understanding of 21st-century classroom technologies and teaching strategies.

This may include work with elementary general music students, collegiate methods courses, introductory music education classes, or other relevant teaching experiences. The video should showcase the candidate’s pedagogical approach, content expertise, and ability to engage students effectively across developmental levels. A brief description of the context (e.g., course, student population, goals of the lesson) may accompany the video submission. Additional materials may be requested at a later date.
