Position description

Since launching in exile in April 2022, Novaya Gazeta Europe has built a strong English-language presence across our website and social media platforms. Our English reporting is regularly cited by major international media.

We’re now looking for an editor to lead and develop our English-language output.

Our ideal candidate:

• Has outstanding command of English — either as a native speaker or as a language professional with substantial experience living in an English-speaking country.
• Has at least one year of journalism experience and closely follows developments in Russia, Ukraine, and the wider region.
• Is comfortable translating and thoughtfully adapting long reads and news features from Russian into clear, compelling English tailored to an international audience. Can coordinate freelance translators and contributors to do the same.
• Is ready to write and curate a weekly newsletter for our English-language readers and help strengthen Novaya Gazeta Europe’s brand globally.

Please note: Applicants must be based outside Russia.
