Part-Time Lecturer Pool – Agricultural Education (AY 25/26)

AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT PART-TIME LECTURER POOL. The Agricultural Education and Communication Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Responsibilities may include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural education; advising students; assisting in co-curricular activities, and supervising student teachers. Positions as determined by need Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters for the 2025-26 academic year, contingent on funding. 

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677

Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224

Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523

Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must have at least three years outstanding success as a high school teacher of agricultural education; knowledge of agriculture, the FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs is essential; supervision of student teachers; a M.S. degree in Agriculture or Master of Agricultural Education; ability to communicate effectively in both the written and verbal forms are required. Must meet qualifications to teach in California. 

PREFERRED PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to those with experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Agricultural Education and Communication Department at Cal Poly has approximately 260 undergraduate students, 155 Master’s Degree candidates, and five full-time and two part-time faculty who teach in the areas of teacher education and agricultural communications. Cal Poly produces nearly half of all of the newly credentialed Agriculture teachers for the state of California each year. Graduates of the department have proven to be effective leaders in secondary, post-secondary, and higher education, not only in California, but throughout the United States. Cal Poly is viewed as the “home” for agricultural education in California. The State FFA Judging Finals and the Summer Conference for the California Agricultural Teachers’ Association have been held on the Cal Poly campus for over ninety years. Faculty and staff of the department are responsible to providing professional development programs for secondary Agriculture teachers via a contract established each year with the California Department of Education. The Brock Center for Agricultural Communication is housed within the Agricultural Education and Communication Department and serves as the laboratory for students to develop their writing, social media, and verbal communication skills.
