The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s premier research organization dedicated to reducing poverty and hunger through rice science; improving the health and welfare of rice farmers and consumers; and protecting the rice-growing environment for future generations. IRRI is an independent, nonprofit, research and educational institute, founded in 1960 by the Ford and Rockefeller foundations with support from the Philippine government. The institute, headquartered in Los Baños, Philippines, has offices in 17 rice-growing countries in Asia and Africa, and over 1,000 staff.

Working with in-country partners, IRRI develops advanced rice varieties that yield more grain and better withstand pests and disease as well as flooding, drought, and other harmful effects of climate change.

As part of its growth and outreach efforts, the Breding Resource Services unit is offering a dynamic digital communications consultancy opportunity. The selected Digital Communications consultant will gain hands-on experience in communication, digital content creation, and international development. This consultancy is ideal for recent graduates seeking to explore the intersection of communications and agricultural research within an international environment. The consultant will support and be supported by the BRS Communications Lead and will be integrated into the agile Breeding Resources core team.

Breeding Resource Services Unit is seeking a full-time Digital Communications consultant to support the B4T Communications Lead in the daily tasks. The Consultant will be fully dedicated to promoting the Breeding Resources area of work at a global level and possess the skill to respond immediately to all Breeding Resources-related requests. Extra capacity is needed mainly to handle the temporary peak workload over the B4T-BR inception.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Responsibilities :

  • Video Editing and Graphic Design
  • Collaborate on the creation of engaging multimedia content, including short videos, GIFs, banners, and visuals, for use across events, websites, and social media platforms. Participate in content planning, make editorial suggestions, and contribute creative ideas to improve impact.
  • Leverage Breeding Resources’ video and photo library to produce high-quality videos (short, medium, and long format) that tell compelling stories. Incorporate animations, subtitles, and branding elements as needed, using professional video editing tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent.
  • Edit and repurpose existing footage using accessible tools like CapCut, Canva, or Premiere to quickly generate polished, on-brand content, as needed.

Social Media Management :

  • Help manage Breeding Resources’ social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, X, YouTube), in close coordination with the Communications Lead.
  • Schedule and publish engaging daily posts in line with Breeding Resources’ communication strategy, tone, and visual style guide
  • Create or adapt multimedia content for social media, including:
  • Visual cards and graphics using Canva or graphic design tools.
  • Summaries of blogs, scientific publications, and news articles
  • Short videos or reels.
  • Support audience growth through the implementation of sponsored campaigns.
  • Bring new ideas and creativity to campaigns and outreach initiatives.

Website Management:

  • Support Breeding Resources web updates and migration, including its microsites hosted on cgiar.org using WordPress and Drupal, and the team’s online toolbox.
  • Upload and format new content (text, images, videos), and assist with visual layout and design.
  • Assist in website analytics monitoring (Google Analytics 4 knowledge is a plus).
  • Support any ongoing website migration or cleanup projects.

Event and Campaign Support :

  • Assist in organizing online and in-person events (e.g., webinars, conferences).
  • Help manage invitations and RSVP lists using tools such as Splash.
  • Maintain and update internal contact/email lists.

Qualifications :

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent diploma) in Communications, Graphic Design, Video Production, or a related discipline.
  • Recent graduates are encouraged to apply; prior experience in a similar role is an asset, but not required.

Skills Required:

Mandatory :

  • Familiarity with video editing and graphic design software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multicultural, fast-paced team.
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
