The role involves contributing to research at the intersection of energy and various rural and urban development nodes. More specifically, conducting research on the use of energy for the improvement in health, livelihoods and education sectors as well as other social and productive outcomes. The individual will also be involved in contributing  and exploring other areas of research to expand and sharpen the overall research portfolio of the program.

This position is a unique opportunity for those wishing to be at the forefront of cutting-edge research and implementation in the field of energy, climate, health, livelihoods, governance and equity considerations. The Program Associate will join a team of highly motivated individuals in the energy for equitable development team and get an opportunity to work with other teams working on the various initiatives at the nexus of people, nature and climate.

Research and Knowledge 

  • Support in leading and conducting secondary and primary research on topics at the intersection of energy, health, agriculture, livelihoods, governance, climate vulnerabilities and overall socio-economic development.
  • Analyse international, national and sub-national policies, programs, schemes and procurement practices on adopting Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) and identify potential opportunities and barriers for energy access and DRE policies, programs, schemes and projects.
  • Conduct secondary mapping of organisations/players at this intersections and the stages of  their engagement across various sectors mentioned above.
  • Contribute in producing high quality research products and data visualisations to inform stakeholders and create awareness in policy makers.
  • Data collection and analysis from diverse sources
  • Support team coordination in other tasks as required and as determined.
  • Contribute to the ongoing project activities.
  • Participate in stakeholder consultations, convenings and workshops and document learning
  • Review and summarise the papers and articles provided by the team.
  • Support the team on capacity building activities as required.

Qualifications and Requirements we seek: 

  • Master’s Degree in Policy, Development studies, Energy, Economics, Environment science, Climate Change, or related discipline.
  • Between 2-4 years of fulltime relevant work experience including experience and exposure in the energy sector.
  • Feel passionate about energy and development issues
  • Good qualitative and quantitative analyses skills, including high-level of proficiency in MS Excel, R/STATA/SPSS, power point and other data visualisation tools.
  • Willingness to travel for work and conduct field visits and on short notice
  • Work independently, with little direction and supervision. Keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrate ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner, think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically under high pressure.
  • Excellent writing and editing, strong listening and communication skills.
