The Green Climate Fund (“GCF”) is a multilateral fund created to make a significant and ambitious contribution to the global efforts towards attaining the goals set by the international community to combat climate change.

GCF contributes to the achievement of the ultimate objective of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). In the context of sustainable development, GCF promotes the paradigm shift towards low-emission and climate-resilient development pathways by providing support to developing countries to limit or reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the impacts of climate change, taking into account the needs of those developing countries particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change. GCF is governed by a Board, composed of an equal representation of developed and developing countries. The Fund is operated by an independent Secretariat headed by an Executive Director.

The Department of Communications (DCOM), within the Office of the Chief Strategy and Impact Officer (OCSIO), shapes and raises GCF’s profile, brand image and digital presence among top-tier international media and key global audiences, including high-level policymakers and political leaders.

The Fund seeks to recruit a Internal Communications Writer to carry out the tasks, duties and responsibilities, deliver the set deliverables and provide support to the hiring unit as detailed below. The consultant will be HQ-based for an initial 120 days, including GCF official holidays, over a six(6)-month period. The expected start date is as soon as possible.

The Consultant will report to the Head of Corporate Communications and will be responsible for writing and editing communication materials that enhance internal coordination and understanding of GCF’s corporate priorities, to be published primarily on the GCF intranet, and other internal communication channels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Consultant will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Drafting and editing of communications products that enhance internal understanding of the ‘Efficient GCF’ initiative, including in relation to operational process changes and in reporting on progress of this initiative during 2025;  
  • Drafting and editing materials to foster ‘vertical’ communications that enhance the GCF’s ability to rapidly interpret and adapt to change, including communications from senior executives to build trust and increase transparency to deliver on the Executive Director’s 50 by 30 strategy;
  • Drafting and editing materials to foster ‘horizontal’ communications that help create a culture of connection and cross-departmental collaboration across the Secretariat, in support of the new organizational structure introduced in 2024 , working closely with the Department of People and Culture.
  • Supporting the development of the Green Shift as an interactive information portal for GCF personnel, including through developing new content, pages and announcements;
  • Facilitating the development and use of other internal communications channels;
  • Supporting the delivery of guidance notes, Standard Operating Procedures and protocols to promote effective internal communications.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, Event Management, International Relations, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in communicatoins, or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Event Management, International Relations, or a related field with at least 5 years of experience in communicatoins
  • Must have knowledge and experience in editorial and content production; knowledge and experience in other functional areas such as speechwriting, media relations, corporate messaging, digital communications highly preferred.
  • Excellent written, editorial and analytical abilities coupled with strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven experience in delivering communications products for international organizations.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential for this position, knowledge of another UN language an advantage.
