Position description

The Senior Podcast Producer or Associate Director of Podcasts (title commensurate with candidate qualifications and experience) will contribute to all aspects of FDD’s growing podcast lineup, including production, guest management, and promotion for high-impact, studio-based and virtually recorded podcasts with a growing national and international audience. This role demands a strong combination of editorial judgment, technical proficiency, project management, and talent coordination. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, discipline, and a passion for meaningful storytelling through audio and video formats. This full-time position works closely with executive and other senior leadership, internal and external experts, digital and communications professionals, and high-profile guests.

Roles and Responsibilities:

      • Manage the full podcast production lifecycle – from pre-production planning and recording to post-production editing and publishing.
      • Support studio operations and ensure the smooth functioning of all recording equipment (audio and video), working closely with consultant support and vendors as needed.
      • Work with hosts, external producers, and FDD podcast producer(s) to develop episode concepts, draft interview briefs, and manage editorial calendars.
      • Serve as a liaison with podcast guests and hosts, managing communications, scheduling, and logistics with professionalism and discretion.
      • Manage in-house staff and coordinate with external editors to ensure timely delivery of clean, polished episodes.
      • Maintain high production standards for sound quality and visual appeal, content flow, and brand consistency.
      • Manage podcast distribution (e.g., Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube), including uploads and analytics tracking.
      • Collaborate with communications, digital, and events teams to develop relevant promotional and marketing content.
      • Monitor podcast performance metrics and generate insights to guide content planning and growth strategies.
      • Follow podcast trends and share relevant recommendations on improvements to format, technology, or distribution.

Qualifications

      • 6+ years of professional work experience, including 3+ years in podcasting, digital media, or a related communications role.
      • Strong technical knowledge of podcast recording equipment and editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition and Premiere, Riverside.fm, StreamYard, RedCircle, or similar platforms).
      • Demonstrated experience with studio setups for both audio and video, including cameras, microphones, lighting, and editing workflows.
      • Proven success booking and managing talent, guests, or experts in a communications or media context.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience drafting briefing materials and coordinating across teams.
      • Meticulous attention to detail, with a highly organized and proactive working style.
      • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
      • Experience managing podcast publishing platforms and performance analytics.
      • Familiarity with digital content promotion, especially across social media channels.
      • A collaborative team player, comfortable with receiving feedback and implementing iterative improvements.
      • Interest in FDD’s mission and programs; familiarity with foreign policy and national security.
      • Must live within commuting distance from downtown Washington, DC and be available to work from FDD’s office in accordance with podcast(s) schedules.

This role has a projected salary band of $80,000-$100,000 per year, based on candidate’s experience and qualifications. Additional benefits are available, including healthcare coverage based on eligibility.
