Job Description Summary

We are currently seeking a full-time assistant or associate-level professor to join our team as the Education Department’s full-time faculty member to teach students in our Middle/Secondary Grades Education program on campus and online, beginning in August of 2025. We are an Educational Preparatory Institute, certified by the Florida Department of Education to offer elementary, middle/secondary grades, and graduate education. The full-time, 9-month faculty position is offered on our university campus, located in Saint Leo, Florida. This position reports to the Undergraduate Education Department Chair, the Dean of the College, and ultimately to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. This position will involve teaching, advising, and program recruitment to ensure the development, implementation, and continual assessment of teaching strategies and processes to grow program capacity while remaining committed to student success. The faculty member must be committed to the educational mission and core values of Saint Leo University, which include a demonstrated commitment to excellence, community, respect, integrity, and responsible stewardship in education through scholarship, practice, and engagement. This is a 9-month appointment, open rank, tenure track.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Teach a 4 x 4 course load each semester
  • Engage in service and scholarship
  • Advise and register education students
  • Supervise education students in the field
  • Support the work of the education department in updating course syllabi and online courses as needed to align with updates in state standards and requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Qualifications:

  • To be considered for this position, candidates must have a terminal degree in Middle or Secondary Education or a closely related field with a specialization in English/Language Arts or Social Sciences.
  • A minimum of six years of classroom teaching experience in a middle or high school teaching various students, including ESE and ESOL.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of higher education, middle/secondary grades education goals, and Florida State Standards.
  • Knowledge of online teaching platforms, experience in teaching online, and online course development/redevelopment.
  • Applied (practitioner) experience

Skills:

  • Willingness to take on diverse roles and multi-task.
  • Willingness to collaborate with department faculty and throughout the university

Abilities:

  • Ability to use technology to enhance learning.

Cover Letter

  • Teaching Philosophy – (500 words or less), should highlight how your teaching philosophy and practices fit the Mission and Values of Saint Leo University.
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation – All letters of recommendation should be professional references and at least one (1) from a recent superior. If you do not have those documents at the time of application, please upload a text or word document stating, “Recommendations will be sent independently.” Recommendation letters can be mailed to Academic Affairs at the address stated below
  • Student Evaluations (six classes minimum) – Student evaluations from the last year (at least six classes, an even mix of graduate and undergraduate).

TRANSCRIPTS

Official transcripts are required for all adjuncts and all final full-time faculty candidates

Official transcripts for Master, Graduate, and Doctorate degrees are required to complete your application packet and are to be issued directly to Saint Leo University from the respective education institution.*

Transcripts that are “Issued to Student” or issued to another institution are not accepted. Digital and/or electronic transcripts cannot be accepted at this time.

World Education Services (WES) Evaluation – A certified evaluation and translation from World Education Services (WES) is required for foreign transcripts and/or any and all degrees obtained from international universities. Expenses for official transcripts are the responsibility of the applicant.
