Position description

GHA is a private, nonprofit organization with a proven history of designing and conducting leadership and management training, community-based health promotion programs, and developing local and regional community health networks worldwide. GHA’s mission is to engage with communities around the world to drive transformational change for the health and well-being of all by focusing on women, children, and adolescents.

GHA has trained more than 10,000 health professionals and community leaders from 97 countries around the globe. These efforts have stimulated the creation of thousands of sustainable health and development programs addressing the world’s most pressing health problems. GHA continues to incorporate into all core programs participatory health training and collaboration with global and community-based non-governmental organizations, government agencies on all levels, faith-based organizations, universities, and other communities.

About the role

Global Health Action is looking for a Policy, Research, and Advocacy Intern. The Intern will provide programmatic, research, and analytical support to the Health Systems Advisor at Global Health Action. S/he will gain valuable knowledge and experience about the complex system and factors affecting health policy at international and national levels and how to influence them. This internship requires 20hrs/week (mandatory: Thursdays 10am-2pm EST; Five Orientation days 10am-2pm EST). This is a part-time, unpaid internship opportunity. Internship timeframe: A minimum of 10 weeks (February 9 – April 17, 2026) for 20 hrs per week. The position is remote from anywhere in the world, with the option to be hybrid. The intern will have the opportunity to become exposed to pressing ethical issues in global health, become familiar with working with coalitions and collaborative concepts, and work with a supervisor who is interested in mentoring. What you’ll do

      • Conduct health policy research and analysis on topics relevant to global health and development and draft summary/position papers/policy briefs
      • Monitor and track policy developments and team activities
      • Analyze state and federal legislation related to global health, development, health workers, and other health issues of concern to communities in low-resourced settings
      • Attend meetings and events, take detailed notes, and report back
      • Research, draft, edit, and format public-facing content and materials, such as talking points, briefs, and reports
      • Other duties and tasks as assigned

Learning Outcomes:

      • Will learn about core elements of the U.S. and Global policymaking process, the roles of various parties and key stakeholders in crafting policy, and GHA’s issue areas
      • Will gain experience conducting research and analysis for policy and advocacy aims
      • Will learn about administrative and legislative advocacy strategies
      • Will have the opportunity to observe, interact, and network with INGO partners and coalitions
      • Will learn about the process of coordinating advocacy across an international NGO

Qualifications

      • Graduate student preferred
      • Excellent written, oral, multitasking and interpersonal communications skills (writing sample required)
      • Knowledge of, or interest in, global health or foreign policy
      • Knowledge of internet research sources, including media search engines
      • Familiarity with the federal legislative process
      • Proficient in Microsoft Word (including creating graphs, charts, and tables), Excel, and PowerPoint
      • Ability to multitask, and prioritize various tasks in a fast-paced work environment
      • Facility with social media.
      • Ability to work productively in a team environment as well as under minimal supervision, taking the initiative to ask questions as needed
      • Academic and/or legal research and analysis skills are a plus
      • Graphic design skills and experience creating visual materials are a plus
